Charles Aranguiz could have put them ahead in the contest, but he placed his close-range effort wide of the post. The miss has epitomised their performance thus far. The defending champions need a special effort in the second half otherwise their reign will be over.

Cristian Cueva missed a good opportunity, but Edison Flores took his chance, blasting his strike into the back of the net. Yoshimar Yotun doubled their advantage, capitalising on a mistake from Gabriel Arias. Ricardo Gareca's men have been clinical in the final third and resilient at the back. If they maintain the standard of their performance they will advance to the final.

9' It has been an open contest in the early stages of the game. Both teams have shown a willingness to commit men forward in the final third.
7' WIDE! ARANGUIZ HAS TO SCORE! It's Chile's turn to miss a glorious opening. Vidal releases the run of Beausejour down the left inside channel and he cuts the ball back for Aranguiz to strike. He has a clear path to goal, only to place his attempt wide of the post.
5' A handball against Sanchez allows Yotun to whip a cross into the box from a free-kick on the right flank. Vargas performs his defensive duties well at the back, clearing with authority.
4' Peru have made a bright start to the game and they're applying pressure on La Roja.
2' CHANCE! Peru should be ahead. Guerrero latches on to a throughball down the left inside channel and he cuts a pass back to an unmarked Cueva. However, the midfielder stabs his effort wide of the post. A huge opportunity spurned by Los Incas.
1' We're underway in this semi-final clash.
Chile have beaten Peru in eight of their 20 Copa America meetings (D6 L6); indeed, in all competitions, Chile have won 44 of their 80 games against Peru (D14 L22).
Peru are also unchanged for the contest as Gareca has opted to remain with the side that defeated Uruguay in the quarter-final shootout. Guerrero leads the line supported once again by a trio of attacking midfielders. Cueva. Flores and Carrillo have to push upfield to ensure the striker is not isolated tonight.
Chile have named an unchanged team from their penalty shootout win over Colombia last time out. Sanchez, Vargas and Fuenzalida lead the line, although Pavez is an option off the bench. The experience of the midfield will be crucial as Vidal and Aranguiz will look to control the game from the off to guide their side into the final.
PERU SUBS: Aldo Corzo, Anderson Santamaria, Miguel Araujo, Josepmir Ballon, Raul Ruidiaz, Carlos Caceda, Andy Polo, Jesus Pretell, Patricio Alvarez, Alexander Callens, Christofer Gonzales.
PERU (4-2-3-1): Pedro Gallese; Luis Advincula, Carlos Zambrano, Luis Abram, Miguel Trauco; Renato Tapia, Yoshimar Yotun; Andre Carrillo, Christian Cueva, Edison Flores; Paolo Guerrero.
CHILE SUBS: Igor Lichnovsky, Paulo Diaz, Nicolas Castillo, Diego Valdes, Brayan Cortes, Esteban Pavez, Pablo Hernandez, Gonzalo Jara, Junior Fernandes, Oscar Oparzo, Angelo Sagal, Yerko Urra.
CHILE (4-3-3): Gabriel Arias; Mauricio Isla, Gary Medel, Guillermo Maripan, Jean Beausejour; Arturo Vidal, Erick Pulgar, Charles Aranguiz; Jose Pedro Fuenzalida, Alexis Sanchez, Eduardo Vargas.
Peru also reached the semi-finals of the Copa America courtesy of a win via a penalty shootout. Their clash against Uruguay ended in a 0-0 draw, prompting a test of character from the spot. Luis Suarez missed Uruguay's first penalty before all five of Peru's takers slotted their efforts home to secure their place in the last four. Los Incas have not reached the final of the competition since their triumph in 1975. As a result, there is pressure on Ricardo Gareca and his team tonight.
Defending champions Chile are looking to secure a place in the final for the third tournament in a row. La Roja have won back-to-back crowns and have enjoyed another strong run in the competition. They were held to a goalless draw in their quarter-final clash against Colombia, forcing a penalty shootout. Reinaldo Rueda's men held their nerve from the spot, while William Tesillio missed his kick to allow Chile to advance. No team has won the Copa America three times in a row since the competition was re-adjusted 1975, Chile need a good performance to keep their hopes of achieving the feat alive.
