Both teams return to European action during the week as Manchester United host Juventus in the Champions League before playing Everton in their next Premier League outing. Chelsea play BATE Borisov at the Bridge in the Europa League before travelling to Turf Moor to face Burnley in their next top-flight clash.

WHAT AN ENDING! Ross Barkley continues to his revitalisation at Chelsea with a late goal to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign. The goal was almost an afterthought as a near melee between Jose Mourinho and a Chelsea staff member brought tensions to boiling point at Stamford Bridge. Anthony Martial's second-half brace looked to have handed Manchester United their second comeback win on the bounce as the Frenchman responded to Antonio Rudiger's opener for the Blues. However, Barkley was in the right place at the right time after David Luiz hit the post and Rudiger was denied from close range to salvage a point for the home side.

90' + 8' DRAMA! It has all kicked off on the sideline between the two benches after Barkley's goal. Someone on the Chelsea bench said something to Mourinho in the midst of the celebrations. The Portuguese was straight out of his seat to confront said person and had to be restrained by stewards down the tunnel. The referee was on the spot to calm the tensions on the sideline after the incident, although Mourinho was incensed.

A cross from Pedro was headed towards the net by David Luiz and it bounced towards the target, only to strike the post. Rudiger on the rebound headed his effort straight at De Gea, but he could only divert his save into the six-yard area. Barkley was on the spot and hammered his effort into the bottom corner. What a huge moment in the context of the start to the campaign for both teams.

It's a scrappy goal as Martial latches on to a loose ball in the air and brings it under control on the penalty spot. He makes no mistake burying his effort with power beyond Kepa. United are back in the game.

54' SAVE! Chelsea fail to clear the danger from a cross into the box and David Luiz's header comes straight to Mata, who drives the ball towards goal on the half-volley. Kepa makes a sharp reaction save to keep out the Spaniard's strike from 12 yards.

52' Willian drives the resulting corner towards the near post where a crowd of bodies attack the ball. However, De Gea remains strong to punch the ball away from danger.

51' Hazard releases David Luiz's run into the box with a neat back heel. The Brazilian cuts in from the left flank to shoot at goal, only to see his effort deflected behind by Young.

49' Hazard breaks down the left flank and takes on Young in the box. He gets his shot away, but it lacks the power to beat De Gea from a tight angle. The Belgian clutches his ankle after the fact as Young caught him with a late boot.

47' CHANCE! Jorginho drives through the middle of the park and feeds Morata with an incisive throughball in the box. The Spaniard turns Smalling and fires low towards the bottom corner, but De Gea gets down to make the stop.

Eden Hazard has been his influential self in the final third, although there has not been a great deal going on around him for the Blues. Alvaro Morata has struggled once again in a Chelsea shirt, while Willian has drifted in and out of the game. Maurizio Sarri may be pondering changes to take complete control of the game. United need a spark of inspiration from somewhere, starting with their front three, who have been underwhelming to say the least.

Chelsea take a 1-0 lead into the break over Manchester United thanks to Antonio Rudiger's header in the 21st minute. The first half was a fairly even contest, with the visitors made to rue one mistake from a set-piece. Paul Pogba lost Rudiger from Willian's corner, allowing the German to head home from six yards.In a game of few chances, the error from the Frenchman could loom large at the end of the match.

45' + 2' Willian collects in space in the right inside channel, but United defenders close around him to take the pace off his strike at goal, allowing De Gea to make a simple save.

45' + 1' Mata scoops a hopeful ball over the top for Martial's run, but David Luiz anticipates the lofted cross and heads away from danger. Martial then fouls the Chelsea defender to alleviate the pressure on the home side.

43' Chelsea work the ball intricately around the final third before Alonso wraps his boot around a left-footed cross towards Morata. Smalling reads the danger well and heads clear to quell the home side's attack.

41' Jorginho lifts a precise ball over the top of Shaw into the right inside channel for Willian's run. The Brazilian has Morata in support in the middle, but his touch just fails him at the decisive moment.

40' WIDE! Morata has space and time on the edge of the box, but he slices his right-footed strike well wide of the target.

39' Lindelof makes an important header at the back to steer Azpilicueta's cross away from the lurking presene of Morata in the middle. Chelsea would relish a second goal before the break.

34' Mata curls the resulting free-kick into the box, but Hazard is there to head the ball clear of danger. Mata's delivery was not the best as there were few red shirts to where he lifted his cross.

31' Willian scoops the ball over the top for Alonso, who has acres of space in the United box. The Spaniard probably expects to see the offside flag raised, but he's onside, only for his control to let him down at the crucial moment.

28' David Luiz allows the ball to bounce in the Chelsea box and Rashford almost capitalises, but the Brazilian is strong in the challenge to block off the forward before he can pounce.

27' This time Hazard does draw the foul from Young as the United right-back comes through the back of the Belgian, clipping his heels.

26' Hazard surges through the middle of the field, but pressure applied by Young stops his run before he can threaten the United defence.

25' Chelsea have lost just two of their last 35 Premier League games in which they’ve scored the first goal (won 31, drawn two, lost two) and are unbeaten in their last 10 in which they’ve opened the scoring prior to today (won eight, drawn two).

24' Kovacic accelerates into the space opened up by United's respect of Hazard. The midfielder charges into the box down the left inside channel and only alert defending from Lindelof stops his progress.

22' Mourinho will be furious with his team for conceding such a cheap goal after a decent start to the contest.

The delivery from Willian was on the money towards the edge of the six-yard box and the German made a run to latch on to the cross. Rudiger met it with a clean header, stealing a march on Pogba, directing his effort beyond De Gea into the bottom corner.

20' Hazard makes a run into the left inside channel to latch on to Kovacic's offload. The Belgian steers the ball across the face of goal, but there's no blue shirt there to capitalise on the opening as United clear behind for a corner.

18' Morata collects on the edge of the United box and tries to turn past Lindelof, but he loses out to the defender, conceding a goal-kick in the process.

16' WIDE! Young sends a good free-kick into the box that has the Chelsea defence scrambling. The ball is cleared only as far as Shaw, who sends the ball back into the area. Lukaku meets his delivery, but guides a header harmlessly wide of the post.

15' Matic is taken out on the charge by Kovacic and Mourinho is incensed on the sideline, demanding retribution against the Chelsea midfielder. There will be no yellow card for Kovacic though.

12' Rashford seizes on a loose ball and surges into space down the right flank. He looks for Lukaku in the middle with a low cross, but the ball evades the Belgian.

11' OVER! Willian takes the free-kick from the edge of the box, but gets his effort horribly wrong, clearing the bar with his strike. A poor one from the Brazilian.

9' Chelsea take the free-kick quickly and Hazard skips past a challenge from Mata before being brought down on the edge of the box by Matic.

9' Young clatters Hazard in aerial duel, handing Chelsea a free-kick in a decent position in the United half.

8' The visitors move the ball around the final third before Shaw tries to pick out Lukaku on the edge of the box, only to be denied by an interception from an alert Jorginho.

Chelsea have lost just one of their last 16 home Premier League games against Manchester United (won 10, drawn five, lost one), a 2-3 defeat in October 2012.

United have also made two changes to their line-up for the clash at Stamford Bridge. Mourinho withdraws Scott McTominay and Bailly from the team, which sees Mata and Lindelof come into the starting line-up. Lukaku leads the attack, supported by Rashford and Martial on the flanks.

Sarri makes two changes to his side from their win over Southampton. Barkley drops to the bench, which may have been influenced by his game time for England during the international break. Kovacic replaces him in the middle of the park, while Morata gets the nod to start ahead of Giroud to spearhead the attack.

Jose Mourinho's job may have been saved in Manchester United's last match as his team rallied from a two-goal deficit to overcome Newcastle United. Goals from Kenedy and Yoshinori Muto put the Portuguese on the brink, but Juan Mata and Anthony Martial levelled the scores before Alexis Sanchez headed home in stoppage time. The Red Devils cannot afford to rest on their laurels this afternoon.

The Premier League returns after a two-week break for the Nations League and international friendlies. Chelsea signed off with an impressive 3-0 win over Southampton on the road that took them back level with Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the table.
