Commentary

That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
Liverpool move back to the top of the Premier League, two points clear of Manchester City, but they still need City to drop points somewhere down the line as they have a game in hand. The Reds will welcome Huddersfield to Anfield next on Friday night. Meanwhile Cardiff remain in the bottom three and they are three points adrift of Brighton. They travel to Craven Cottage next weekend to face Fulham.
Liverpool keep the pressure up on Manchester City as they beat Cardiff 2-0, thanks to second half goals by Wijnaldum and Milner. The Reds dominated much of the game, but finally got the breakthrough when Wijnaldum fired the ball home after a short corner, before Milner doubled their lead from the penalty spot after Morrison brought down Salah. Cardiff had chances of their own, with Morrison going closest, but they couldn't quite find a crucial goal and the visitors managed to see the game out.
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: CARDIFF 0-2 LIVERPOOL
J. Milner
Yellow Card
90' + 1' Milner is booked after he pulls Murphy back, as Cardiff looked to break forward.
90' There will be a minimum of three minutes of added time played.
90' SAVE! Etheridge with a great stop to deny Salah the third Liverpool goal, the striker is fed through by Firmino and Salah then tries to flick the ball into the bottom corner, but the Cardiff keeper gets down well to push it around the post.
88' Just a couple of minutes left now, it looks like Liverpool have wrapped up the victory and will be heading back to the top of the Premier League.
J. Gomez
T. Alexander-Arnold
86' Final Liverpool substitution now, with Alexander-Arnold replaced by Gomez.
85' Ten of Milner's last 12 league goals for Liverpool have come from the penalty spot, with nine of those 12 goals also coming away from home.
J. Murphy
J. Hoilett
83' Third and final Cardiff substitution, with Hoilett coming off and he has been replaced by Murphy.
J. Milner
Penalty Goal
81' GOOOAAALLL! Milner doubles Liverpool's lead from the penalty spot, it's 2-0! He doesn't miss many penalties and he slotted the ball into the bottom corner, with Etheridge diving the wrong way.
80' LIVERPOOL PENALTY! Morrison has his hands all over Salah as the striker tries to wriggle away from him inside the box and the Liverpool man goes down under the pressure. The referee points to the spot straight away.
A. Gunnarsson
Yellow Card
80' Gunnarsson is booked after protesting the award of the penalty. Salah went down easily, but Morrison did have his arms around Salah.
L. Bacuna
J. Ralls
79' Cardiff are now forced into making a change, after Ralls limps off with a hamstring injury and he has been replaced by Bacuna.
77' Mendez-Laing almost gets in at the far post after a long direct ball towards the winger, he controls it and looks to fire a shot at goal, but Henderson manages to get back in time and force the corner.
J. Milner
Fabinho
75' Unfortunately Fabinho is unable to continue, just a few minutes after coming onto the pitch as the medical team decide that he's not fit to continue. Milner is his replacement.
73' Stoppage in play now as Fabinho is down with a head injury after an aerial clash with Zohore. The midfielder has only just come onto the pitch and the medical staff look quite concerned.
Fabinho
N. Keïta
71' Liverpool now make their first change, with Keita the man heading off the pitch and he has been replaced by Fabinho.
69' The pace of the game has dropped slightly in the last couple of minutes, with Cardiff managing to get into their shape and Liverpool look like they're running down the clock.
K. Zohorè
O. Niasse
67' Cardiff make their first substitution of the game with Niasse coming off and he has been replaced by Zohore.
66' Cardiff have certainly improved since going a goal down, they've shown more urgency to push forward and now look dangerous in front of goal themselves.
64' SO CLOSE! Morrison somehow manages to miss from just a yard out after Alisson fails to punch the ball clear. It falls to Morrison who had gambled on the keeper missing it, but it hits his back and bounces wide. The home supporters can't believe that didn't go in.
63' Wijnaldum's goal is just his second to be scored away from home in the Premier League, with the other 19 all coming in home games.
61' HUGE CHANCE! Henderson should be doubling Liverpool's lead, but he misses from close range. Mane gets to the byline and then pulls the ball back to the skipper, who should at least be hitting the target from the edge of the six-yard box, but he leans back and fires it over the crossbar.
60' Hoilett with a good strike, but it doesn't have enough pace on it to beat Alisson, who makes a comfortable save.
59' Liverpool are pushing forward in search of another goal that would surely wrap up the victory, but the game is much more open now as Cardiff try to break out of defence as well.
T. Alexander-Arnold
Assist
57' At first it looked like Alexander-Arnold had scuffed the corner, but it was a well worked move, that still required a fine finish, which Wijnaldum produced.
G. Wijnaldum
Goal
57' GOOOAAALLL! Liverpool finally have the breakthrough, Wijnaldum scores to make it 1-0! It's been coming and the Reds have a huge goal in their title push. Alexander-Arnold whips a low ball into the box, which is met at the front post by Wijnaldum, who drills the ball into the back of the net. Excellent move and goal.
55' Good strike! Alexander-Arnold with a powerful effort from 30 yards out, but it flies wide of the Cardiff goal. The visitors just can't get out of their own half at the moment.
54' The Cardiff midfield are starting to look a little tired, they've had to do an awful lot of chasing the ball and it's taking it's toll.
52' It's all Liverpool once again here, they are dominating possession and Cardiff have everyone back behind the ball defending.
50' Salah has scored 19 league goals this season, and could become just the third Liverpool player to score 20 in consecutive Premier League campaigns (Robbie Fowler 1994-95 and 1995-96, Luis Suarez 2012-13 and 2013-14).
48' Decent opportunity for Cardiff! Morrison with a free header at the far post after a deep cross into the box, but the centre-back fires his header over the crossbar.
46' The second half is underway!
Cardiff managed to create a good chance of their own, with Niasse forcing Alisson into a good save late on. Mendez-Laing has also been one to watch for the hosts, he has caused a lot of problems down the left wing with his electric pace. Both teams need to win here for different reasons, so it will be interesting to see how the second half turns out.
It's goalless at the break, but Liverpool should be ahead after a couple of excellent goalscoring opportunities and they've dominated much of the game. Firmino was played through on goal and just had Etheridge to beat, but he fired the ball over the crossbar. Salah was then later denied by the Cardiff keeper, who made a fine save after Salah broke free inside the box. Cardiff have held firm and will certainly be the happier of the two sides at the break.
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: CARDIFF 0-0 LIVERPOOL
45' + 3' Blocked! Alexander-Arnold steps up to take the free-kick, but he fires it straight into the wall!
45' + 2' Free-kick to Liverpool in an excellent shooting position right at the end of the half. Mane is brought down by Gunnarsson around 25 yards out and it looks like Alexander-Arnold might be the one to take it.
45' There will be a minimum of two minutes added time played.
44' CHANCE! Cardiff with their best opportunity of the game from the resulting corner. Alisson punches the ball away, but it falls to Ralls who returns it into the area, it comes to Niasse who fires the ball towards goal on the volley, but Alisson is there to tip it over the bar.
43' Good play by Hoilett. He realises that he can't get past Van Dijk, so instead tries to cross to a teammate in the box, which is blocked and goes out for a corner.
42' Cardiff will be happy to see the game out to half-time now as they've had to do a lot of defending so far. Liverpool should be ahead after the chances and amount of possession that they've had.
40' Liverpool have won each of their last nine Premier League matches against newly promoted sides, scoring 27 goals and conceding just three. The Reds have never won 10 successive such matches in the competition.
38' Not long left to play until the end of the first half now, can either side break the deadlock before the half-time whistle?
36' Opportunity for Cardiff now with a long throw-in, Gunnarsson launches the ball into the penalty area, but Liverpool clear the danger and set up Salah on the counter-attack. However, Manga does superbly to slow him down and it allows Morrison time to get back and they crowd Salah out.
34' CHANCE! Great save by Etheridge to deny Salah, who spins Manga and he tries to slide the ball into the far corner of the net. However, the Cardiff keeper is quick off his line and makes a fine stop with his feet.
32' Stoppage in play here as Niasse is down on the pitch and the medical staff are coming onto the pitch after he was pushed off the ball by Firmino and he appears to fall awkwardly.
30' Cardiff will be delighted with their performance so far, they've only given away one clear chance so far and will want to keep it goalless for as long as possible, then hope to break away on the counter-attack.
28' Firmino jinks past Gunnarsson and lays the ball out wide to Salah, who should cross into the box, but instead he opts to pass to Henderson who tries to play a quick one-two with the striker, but there isn't enough room and the ball goes out of play.
27' Cardiff have picked up just two points from their 22 Premier League games against the six ever-present sides in the competition (W0 D2 L20), losing their last 18 in a row against Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Man Utd and Spurs.
25' Mendez-Laing has the beating of Alexander-Arnold every time at the moment, the winger sprints past the right-back and gets all the way to the byline, but his cross is blocked. Liverpool might need to double up on him.
24' Liverpool are having to be patient and wait for a gap to open up at the back, but the hosts are getting everyone back behind the ball and not allowing much space. The only mistake they've made so far is the opportunity for Firmino a couple of minutes ago.
22' HOW DID HE MISS? Firmino with a great chance to put Liverpool ahead, somehow he manages to put the ball over the crossbar from near the penalty spot, with just Etheridge to beat. Salah and Mane link up well on the edge of the area, with Mane poking it through to Firmino, but he lifts the ball over the bar.
20' The home supporters are having a big impact on this game, appealing every decision and cheering every time the visitors make a mistake. Liverpool just haven't been at their best so far.
18' Liverpool look frustrated by this Cardiff defensive performance so far, they've struggled to break into the final third as the hosts hold firm.
16' Alisson fumbles the resulting corner, it pats it away and Liverpool just about manage to clear the danger. Salah then breaks up the other end, tries to round Peltier, but the right-back defends well and wins the ball back.
15' CHANCE! Great block by Robertson to deny Hoilett from close range after a deep cross from the right wing by Mendez-Laing. The winger takes a touch which allows Robertson to get back at him, before firing a low shot at goal. Mendez-Laing is having a lot of joy down the left wing, he's beaten Alexander-Arnold a couple of times already.
13' Wild effort from Mane! The striker has been in superb form recently and he tried his luck from long range, but the ball flies high and wide of the Cardiff goal.
11' Decent Cardiff attack! Niasse manages to find space down the left, but Van Dijk holds him up well and prevents him from whipping the ball into the penalty area.
10' The hosts are struggling to string a couple of passes together, with Niasse unable to hold the ball up top when it does come to him. They need him to try and slow the pace of the game down.
8' Cardiff have lost their three Premier League meetings with Liverpool, conceding 13 goals. The Bluebirds have never lost more top-flight matches in a row versus the Reds.
6' Early corner for Liverpool, which Alexander-Arnold whips in the penalty area, but it's straight onto the head of Morrison, who heads it clear.
5' There is a cracking atmosphere inside the stadium, with both teams getting behind their teams, with the Cardiff supporters spurred on by their sides recent victory over their relegation rivals.
3' Liverpool showing attacking intent early on here, they got the game underway and they've kept the ball since, forcing Cardiff to get everyone back behind the ball.
1' We're underway!
The teams are out at the Cardiff City Stadium and kick-off is just a few minutes away. Stay tuned for all of the match action!
