Commentary

That's all for today. Goodbye.
Next up, Cadiz head to Getafe in LaLiga, with Atletico travelling to Porto in the Champions League.
Cadiz squandered a two-goal lead before scoring with the final kick of the game to beat Atletico. In the bottom three, the home side got off to a fast start. It took them 27 seconds to find an opener, with Bongonda burying Espino’s cross into the bottom corner. It then took until the 81st minute for another goal. Espino was the creator for a second time, setting the ball back to Fernandez who took one touch before lashing the ball against the bar and into the net. Introduced in the second half, Felix thought he rescued a point for his side. First seeing his overhead kick defect off of Fernandez to halve the deficit, the Portuguese international then lashed the ball into the bottom corner to find the leveller. With two goals in a few minutes, a third looked to be on the cards through Niguez and Felix, but they both missed the target. Instead, it was Gonzalez’s side who found the winner. A substitute was involved again, with Alejo’s inch-perfect cross finding Sobrino who was unmarked in the middle. The striker bundled the ball in from close range, with a short check for a possible handball against the 30-year-old waved away.

47' Cadiz are unbeaten in their last six Spanish La Liga matches when leading at half-time (W3, D3) dating back to 29th August 2021 against Osasuna (L2-3).
46' Atletico get the second half underway.
Cadiz have done well in a low block with the countering effective. For Atletico, they must use the wide areas more. Molina and Carrasco have looked dangerous, regularly finding space down the wings. However, the away side must be more clinical on the attack. Ledesma has had it easy in the Cadiz net, collecting tame efforts or watching the ball fly past the outside of the post.
Bongonda scored after 27 seconds to give Cadiz an early lead and put them on course for their second win of the season. Mbaye was the instigator of the opener, launching the ball from defence towards Espino who was bursting down the left. Keeping the ball on the pitch, his first-time cross was met by Bongonda who drilled the ball into the bottom corner. After their goal, their best opportunity for a second came in stoppage time. It came through Sobrino, who latched onto Ocampo’s throughball before having his shot saved by Oblak. In the middle, it was all Atletico. De Paul and Carrasco both curled the ball around the post with Niguez having the best chance to equalise. On the edge, his attempt was saved by Ledesma who only had to make routine stops in the first 45 minutes.
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: CADIZ 1-0 ATLETICO MADRID
45' + 3' SAVE! Chance for Cadiz at the end of the half. Ocampo slips the ball down the left to Sobrino who is one-on-one with Oblak. From a narrow-angle, his attempt is blocked by the goalkeeper who makes himself big.
45' + 2' Great play from Espino. It looked like Molina beat him down the right before the left-back recovered. He got in front of the Atletico man and shielded the ball out for a goal-kick.
45' De Paul's cross goes all the way to Carrasco at the back of the box. The Belgian shifts the ball onto his right foot before curling it wide of the near post.
45' There will be four minutes of additional time.
44' Free-kick in a crossing position for Atletico after the ball struck the arm of Espino.
42' The ball has been trapped in the middle third for the last couple of minutes. Both sides failing to get control of the ball with loose passes on either side.
40' Griezmann has been involved in five goals in his last four appearances in LaLiga (three goals and two assists), as many as in his previous 22 matches in the competition (two goals and three assists). Simeone might look to bring him on in the second half.
38' A long ball forward from Ledesma looks for Ocampo down the left, but Molina gets across to head the ball back to Oblak.
36' Ledesma has been the busiest out of the two goalkeepers but all three of the saves that he has had to make have been simple ones.
34' This time, Correa squares the ball across to Cunha who sets it back to Niguez. Running onto it, his curling effort is saved by the goalkeeper.
34' Carrasco drives a pass towards Correa who attempts to turn on the ball outside the box but is tackled.
32' Chance for Cadiz. On the left, Ocampo cuts inside before his curling effort deflects off of Witsel and out for a corner.
30' Niguez shoots under pressure in the middle of the Cadiz box but his effort is tame and rolls to the goalkeeper who does not have to move. It came seconds after Witsel had a shot blocked.
Víctor Chust

Cádiz

28' Mbaye is down and receiving treatment after a challenge from Cunha. Fali signals for a substitute.
27' Cadiz have scored from their only shot so far.
25' De Paul curls the ball in from the right looking for men in the middle. Hernandez comes across to loop the ball over the bar and out for a corner.
23' Under Simeone, Atletico have won their four games against Cadiz in LaLiga. Only against Elche (eight) and UD Las Palmas (six) has he managed more matches in the competition while winning each game. They will have to come from behind if they want to continue their impressive run of results.
21' Tricky feet from Bongonda. He attempts a 'rebona' cross but his attempt is blocked. Lozano laid the ball into his path, but there was nobody in the box for Bongonda to aim for.
19' Atletico are starting to wrestle control of the game. Correa dribbles down the right, beating Cadiz defenders before entering the box. Cutting the ball across, Ledesma palms the ball away.
17' Reinildo looks to copy Mbaye's long ball forward that lead to the opener. Searching for Cunha, the direct pass has too much power and bounces to the goalkeeper.
16' Carrasco is involved again, this time setting the ball back to De Paul who curls the ball around the post from just outside the box.
15' Atletico have had 75.8 per cent possession over the opening 15 minutes of this game.
15' Carrasco slides the ball down the left to Reinildo but his cross is blocked.
14' The early goal and enforced substitution have clearly unsettled Atletico. Molina looks for men in the middle but his cross fails to beat the first man.
11' Carrasco whips the ball into the box from the right after De Paul wins a free-kick. Correa looks to flick it on but Cadiz clear the danger.
Matheus Cunha
Álvaro Morata
Atlético Madrid
10' Early substitution for Atletico. The injured Morata is replaced by Cunha.
8' Morata will not be able to continue. Simeone is about to bring on Cunha. Not the best start for Atletico.
6' Atletico are frustrated. Turning inside the box, Morata is brought down by the foot of Mbaye. The striker is still down, but no penalty is given. He is receiving treatment.
4' Correa smashes the ball over from just inside the box. He played a smart one-two with De Paul to create space but couldn't find the target.
A. Espino
Assist
Cádiz
1' Espino does well to keep the ball on the pitch, sprinting onto a launched ball forward by Mbaye. Manager Gonzalez claps the goal, but with 89 minutes left of the game, there is still plenty of action to be had.
T. Bongonda
Goal
Cádiz
1' GOALLLLLL! WHAT A START! 1-0 CADIZ! The home side have the lead. Espino bursts down the left before cutting the ball back towards Bongonda. Running onto it, he slams the ball into the bottom corner past Oblak. With just 27 seconds on the clock, that's the fastest LaLiga goal this season.
1' Cadiz get this LaLiga match underway.
Cadiz have failed to win in their last seven home games against Atletico in LaLiga (D3 L4), after winning in five of their previous seven at home against the Red and White side in the competition (D1 L1).
As for Atletico, Simeone makes three alterations to the team that drew with Leverkusen during the week. In the defence, Savic starts ahead of Gimenez, with Reinildo moving from left-back to centre-back. As a result, there is no place for Hermoso, with Niguez taking his place. Griezmann also misses out, with De Paul playing right wing and Correa moving up to the striking position next to Morata.
Cadiz make four changes to the team that lost against Vallecano last time out. Isaac Carcelen, one of the two players that got sent off in the previous match, is replaced by Fali. The 29-year-old goes into centre-back with Hernandez moving out to right-back. Staying with the defence, Chust drops to the bench, with Mbaye starting. Ruben Alcaraz is also suspended after being dismissed, with Bongonda taking his place. There is also a change at striker. Lozano is preferred ahead of Negredo, who leads the line alongside Sobrino.

As for Atletico, they will be looking to bounce back from midweek disappointment. Drawing with Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, they cannot finish in the top two positions in Group B, failing to make it out of the group stage of the competition for only the third time in their 13 appearances. Switching the focus to LaLiga, Simeone’s side are third, eight points behind leaders Real Madrid. Atletico have impressed on the road, collecting 16 points of the 18 available (W5 D1), equalling their best tally in their first six away games in a season in the top-flight (16 points in 1994/95 – W5 D1).
Cadiz’s five-game unbeaten run came to an end last time out, losing 5-1 against Rayo Vallecano. Drawing four successive games after beating Real Valladolid, their only victory in the league so far, the home side are 19th after collecting seven points from their first 11 matches.
