Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary. Until next time, goodbye.
Argentina have failed once again on the major stage, while Messi was also off the boil not for the first time in a leading tournament. They will have to pick themselves up for the third-place playoff on Saturday to end their campaign on a high note.
Brazil advance to the final of the Copa America for the first time since 2007. Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino were enough to defeat Argentina tonight, although it was far from a classic performance from Tite's men. The Selecao were the more clinical side in the final third, taking their two clear-cut opportunities in front of goal. Argentina were made to rue their missed chances as Sergio Aguero struck the bar, while Lionel Messi was denied by the post. Brazil are still yet to concede in the tournament and they will take that defensive resilience into the final where they will play either Chile or Peru in an attempt to win the crown for a fifth time.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: BRAZIL 2-0 ARGENTINA
S. Agüero

89' Foyth rolls the ball into the feet of Lo Celso, who takes a touch before going for a strike at goal. However, the ball is blocked behind for a corner by Casemiro.

N. Tagliafico
Argentina
85' Final change for Argentina as Dybala replaces Tagliafico.
84' Otamendi is back on his feet and play is ready to resume. Willian has also returned to the field.

Brazil
82' Allan goes into the book for the hosts.
81' Willian goes down with an apparent injury after fending off an attack by Aguero down the right flank.

77' BLOCK! A handball decision against Dani Alves allows Messi another opportunity to fire at goal from a free-kick. However, his effort from 20 yards clips the top of the wall and deflects out for a corner.
76' Brazil have been the more clinical side tonight. They've taken the two clear-cut openings on offer and are on their way to securing a place in the final.
74' Martinez brings down Firmino, but the referee opts not to show the Argentina forward his second yellow card. La Albiceleste have to be careful to hold their composure, the game is not over yet.

71' Jesus runs at the Argentina defence before rolling the ball back for Firmino to convert.
Roberto Firmino
Goal
Brazil
71' GOALLLLLLLLL!!! FIRMINO SCORES!! 2-0 BRAZIL!!!! The first goal saw Firmino tee up Jesus. The Manchester City man now returns the favour for his team-mate. He produces a brilliant run on the counter at the Argentina defence, beating the challenge of Otamendi to surge into the left inside channel. Jesus keeps his footing under pressure before cutting back onto his right foot. He spots Firmino in acres of space and picks him out. Firmino is left with a simple finish to double his side's lead, putting the hosts in a commanding position in the contest.
70' Martinez and Messi attempt to combine on the edge of the Brazil box, but Thiago Silva intercepts the Barcelona man's throughball for Aguero to break up the attack.
G. Lo Celso
R. De Paul
Argentina
67' Lo Celso replaces De Paul in the Argentina midfield. Scaloni will be hopeful that he produces a similar impact as he did against Venezuela.

Brazil are being put under pressure by La Albiceleste.
J. Foyth
Yellow Card
Argentina
56' Foyth goes into the book for a foul on Jesus in the build-up to the attack.
56' OVER! Jesus spins his way past two challenges on the edge of the Argentina box. He offloads towards Coutinho in the area, but the Barcelona man can only poke his attempt over the bar. The midfielder pounds the ground in frustration.
54' Aguero has space in front of him in the Brazil half, although he runs out of support as he approaches the penalty area before losing out to Alex Sandro.
52' OVER! Argentina build with menace down the left flank as Aguero, Martinez and Messi combine. The latter tees up De Paul for a drive on the edge of the box, but he hammers his effort over the bar.

Willian
Éverton
Brazil
46' Willian replaces Everton at the back for the Selecao.
Tite's men are 45 minutes away from the Copa America final. They've not been outstanding, but they've been clinical when it mattered the most. The Selecao have not conceded in the tournament and another solid half is required to keep Messi and company at bay.
Brazil take a 1-0 lead into the break of their Copa America semi-final contest against Argentina. Gabriel Jesus' strike separates the two sides as he converted Roberto Firmino's low cross in the 19th minute. The game has been fairly even, but the Selecao produced a fine move courtesy of Dani Alves to earn the breakthough. Sergio Aguero was denied an equaliser by the bar, but other than that attempt Argentina have been fairly underwhelming and will need to improve in the final third to get back into the match in the second half.

43' Argentina clear the resulting corner from Coutinho as far as Arthur 20 yards from goal. The midfielder lines up a strike that is saved with ease by Armani.

36' BLOCK! Messi turns his way past the challenge of Arthur and he surges down the field. He slides a throughball for the run of Aguero, who takes on the strike. However, Thiago Silva is well placed to deny the forward with a fine block.
35' Argentina will not be happy that the two Brazil injuries disrupted their rhythm just when they were starting to put the pressure on the Selecao.
34' Dani Alves makes his way back on to the pitch no worse for wear.
33' Dani Alves goes down after having his foot trodden on by Paredes. He requires treatment before we can continue.

31' A concern for Brazil as Alisson is down in need of treatment after the near-miss for Argentina.
30' OFF THE BAR! Argentina are denied an equaliser by the bar as Aguero sees his header bounce off the woodwork. Messi clips a dangerous cross into the box and the Manchester City man rises highest in the middle. He loops a header towards the net, but it hits the bar and the rebound bounces towards a yellow shirt rather than a sky blue one, allowing Brazil to clear the danger.
28' Casemiro brings down Messi with a loose challenge and Argentina are not happy that the midfielder has gone unpunished.
26' Messi floats the ball into the penalty area, but it's a disappointing one from the Barcelona man as Alisson claims the cross with ease.

23' Messi has not been involved in the game in the opening 23 minutes. La Albiceleste need to get their key man into the game.
21' Brazil have the advantage and given their defensive record in the competition thus far, Argentina have to force the issue to get back into the game.

Brazil
19' Firmino pulls into space on the right flank and supplies the cross that allows Jesus to convert.
Gabriel Jesus
Goal
Brazil
19' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! JESUS PUTS BRAZIL AHEAD!! 1-0!! The Manchester City man converts a low cross from Firmino to hand his team the lead. The goal comes from excellent work from Dani Alves. Brazil's captain skips past two challenges before releasing Firmino into the right inside channel. The striker continues the move with a fine low ball across the face of goal. Jesus is well placed to slam home his strike past Armani, who has no chance.
17' Argentina see their corner cleared with ease as De Paul's delivery fails to find a team-mate. Foyth struggles on his own at the back and Casemiro threads the ball through to the forward run of Jesus. However, Pezzella holds his nerve to make a crucial challenge.
16' Martinez and Messi combine in the final third and the former wins a corner off the legs of Marquinhos following his break down the left inside channel.

7' Dani Alves is loose with an offload from a free-kick, overhitting his pass aiming for Jesus out for a goal-kick.
6' Brazil are attempting to establish a rhythm in the early stages of the contest, forcing La Albiceleste back into their own half.
4' Pezzella concedes a corner for La Albiceleste, but they are able to clear their lines with ease from Coutinho's delivery from the left flank.
2' OFFSIDE! Firmino latches on to a headed ball forward and connects with a powerful strike on his right foot. Armani makes a fine save, although the effort would not have counted anyway as the Brazil striker was offside.
1' We're underway in this semi-final match.
Brazil against Argentina is the most played fixture in Copa America history: They have met 32 times, with 15 wins for the Argentines and nine for the Brazilians (D8). However, Brazil have won 42 and lost 38 of their 105 meetings with Argentina in all competitions (D25).
Scaloni has named an unchanged team for the clash tonight from the side that triumphed over Venezuela. Lo Celso remains on the bench, despite his second-half strike. Acuna, Paredes and De Paul hold down the midfield. Messi, Aguero and Martinez continue to lead the line, with Dybala having to settle for a place on the bench.
Tite has made two changes to his side from their shootout win over Paraguay last time out. Brazil welcome back Casemiro from suspension and he returns to the midfield to replace Allan. Alex Sandro is preferred to Filipe Luis at left-back in the other alteration.
ARGENTINA SUBS: Renzo Saravia, Roberto Pereyra, Angel di Maria, Agustin Marchesin, Ramiro Fuenes Mori, Milton Casco, Guido Pizarro, Guido Rodriguez, Matias Suarez, Giovani Lo Celso, Paulo Dybala, Juan Musso.
ARGENTINA (4-3-3): Franco Armani; Juan Foyth, German Pezzella, Nicolas Otamendi, Nicolas Tagliafico; Rodrigo de Paul, Leandro Paredes, Marcos Acuna; Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martinez, Sergio Aguero.
BRAZIL SUBS: Joao Miranda, Filipe Luis, David Neres, Willian, Eder Militao, Allan, Cassio, Fernandinho, Lucas Paqueta, Richarlison, Fagner, Ederson.
BRAZIL (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Dani Alves, Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Alex Sandro; Arthur, Casemiro; Gabriel Jesus, Philippe Coutinho, Everton; Roberto Firmino.
Argentina's path to the semi-finals was more straightforward than their opponents. Lionel Scaloni's men had a slow start to the tournament, but could be finding their stride after overcoming Venezuela in the last eight. Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Giovani Lo Celso notched the second to secure the victory. La Albiceleste and more importantly Lionel Messi have been quiet thus far, but they will need to rise to the occasion tonight.
Brazil played out a goalless draw against Paraguay in the quarter-finals. The two teams could not be separated after 90 minutes, forcing a penalty shootout. Brazil held their nerve from 12 yards, scoring four of their five penalties. Gabriel Jesus netted the winning spot-kick, sending the Selecao through to the last four. However, Tite will know that his side will have to be at their best to overcome Argentina to earn a place in the final.
