Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Gladbach have momentum to take into their next outing against Bochum at home in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Bayern next play Union Berlin on the road on Saturday in the Bundesliga.
Borussia Monchengladbach have inflicted Bayern Munich's heaviest defeat in the DFB-Pokal to send the club crashing out of the competition by a 5-0 margin at Borussia-Park. The home side stormed into a three-goal lead inside the opening 21 minutes as Kouadio Kone fired them ahead before Ramy Bensebaini scored a brace, including a strike from the penalty spot. Breel Embolo then took the game away from the visitors in the second half with two crisp finishes. Adi Hutter's men surge into the next round, while Bayern exit the competition in the second round for the second year on the bounce.
90' FULL-TIME: BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH 5-0 BAYERN MUNICH

88' There has been no shortage of effort tonight from Bayern. They've simply been outplayed by Gladbach.
86' Bayern are on course for their heaviest DFB-Pokal defeat, and biggest loss since a 7-1 hammering at the hands of Fortuna Dusseldorf in the Bundesliga in 1978.
84' Tolisso works the ball to Pavard, who fires at goal, but his effort is saved with ease by Sommer. There's no way through the Gladbach keeper today.
81' Gladbach have put in a brilliant performance this evening. They have been clinical in the final third and it has been enough to surely dump the visitors out of the competition, blowing the DFB-Pokal wide open.
79' SAVE! Bayern continue to press and Muller latches on to a knockdown from Kimmich's delivery into the box. He steers a left-footed strike towards goal, but Sommer beats it away.
D. Zakaria
Yellow Card
79' Zakaria brings down Sane in the final third and hands Bayern a free-kick in a useful position.
77' OFF THE BAR! Tolisso strikes the bar for the visitors. Kimmich launches a cross deep to the back post and the Frenchman peels off his marker to have a free header at goal. However, he can only plant his header onto the bar before the home side clear the danger. Sommer may have got a vital touch there.
75' CHANCE! Lewandowski nods an offload into the path of Muller six yards from goal. However, the forward fails to complete the finish on the half-volley, firing his attempt straight at Sommer.

J. Hofmann

J. Stanišić

C. Tolisso
L. Goretzka
64' Goretzka takes a knock and is withdrawn by the visitors. Tolisso replaces the German in the Bayern midfield.
63' The last time Bayern trailed by five goals was in 2008 under the tenure of Jurgen Klinsmann against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

He holds his composure blasting his right-footed strike on the half-volley into the back of the net.

46' We're back under way in this DFB-Pokal clash.
Bayern were on the back foot from the off and failed to response to the hosts' pressing. Unless the visitors can mount a huge comeback in the second half, they're heading out of the DFB-Pokal in the second round.
Three goals inside 21 minutes have put Borussia Monchengladbach in complete command of their DFB-Pokal clash against Bayern Munich at the break. Kouadio Kone fired the home side ahead in the second minute before Ramy Bensebaini added a second with a cool finish. Bensebaini then notched is second from the penalty spot after Breel Embolo was fouled in the box. Gladbach could not have wished for a better first half.

45' There will be three minutes of added time.

42' Gnabry makes a break down the right flank and feeds the run of Sane in the right-inside channel. The winger wants an immediate return, but Sane checks back on to his left foot before he loses out to Beyer.
41' OVER! Kimmich rolls the ball to Goretzka to strike from the edge of the box, but the midfielder can only launch his 20-yard effort over the bar.
40' Upamecano sends a long ball over the top that Lewandowski collects, but the flag goes up for offside. The forward wags his finger at the linesman, but he was beyond the last Gladbach defender.
39' Lewandowski tries to turn in tight quarters, but he takes a heavy touch and loses the ball behind for a goal-kick. The Pole claps his hands in frustration.
38' Sane takes possession down the left flank and he has Gnabry and Lewandowski in space at the back post. The winger lifts a cross into the middle, but it just sails over the head of Gnabry and out for a goal-kick.
36' Bayern have been extremely fluent in the final third in their last three matches. However, they have been knocked out of their rhythm tonight and have not been able to lay a glove on the hosts yet.
34' Bayern work the ball in the final third before space opens up for Gnabry to strike from 20 yards, but he can only place a tame left-footed strike straight at Sommer.

27' Despite trailing 3-0 Bayern will not panic. They know that they have the firepower to break back into the contest if they get one goal back before half-time. However, conceding again is unthinkable for the visitors.
25' Bayern have been rocked by the incredible performance of the home side. It is not very often that the visitors are beaten heavily and outplayed, but they have no answer for Gladbach at the moment.
23' OVER! Bayern win a corner down the right flank that Gnabry swings into the box. Upamecano rises highest in the box, but he can only nod his effort over the bar.

11' WHAT A SAVE! Ginter sends a cross into the path of Embolo in the box. Upamecano misjudges the flight of the ball and presents the forward with a free strike at goal, but Neuer produces an outstanding reaction stop to turn his attempt over the bar.
9' CHANCE! Hofmann has a huge opportunity to double Gladbach's lead, but he fails to hit the target from close range. The forward latches on to an offload from Scally and bursts away from Upamecano. He surges into the right-inside channel, but flicks his effort on the outside of his boot wide of the left post.
