Bayern Munich have won only one of their eight matches in European competitions against Liverpool. Their last victory came in the Cup Winners’ Cup back in November 1971 with two goals from Gerd Müller and one from Uli Hoeness in a 3-1 win in Munich.
The home side are yet to taste defeat in this year’s Champions League campaign and come into this second leg clash having won four of their seven games in the competition. Liverpool, meanwhile, are yet to win any of their three away fixtures in Europe. The Reds will however be hoping to at least replicate Ajax’s 1-1 draw at the Allianz in the group stage of the competition as they look to progress.
Bayern make two changes from their last outing against Liverpool with Rafinha replacing the suspended Kimmich, whilst Ribery also comes in to replace Coman who drops to the bench following recent injury problems. The visitors, on the other hand, also make two changes from the first leg with Van Dijk retuning from suspension to replace Fabinho, whilst Milner starts in place of the injured Naby Keita.
LIVERPOOL SUBS: Simon Mignolet, Dejan Lovren, Fabinho, Adam Lallana, Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi.
BAYERN MUNICH SUBS: Sven Ulreich, Jerome Boateng, Renato Sanches, Leon Goretzka, Woo-Yeong Jeong, Alphonso Davies, Kingsley Coman.
LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson; Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner; Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino.
BAYERN MUNICH (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer; Rafinha, Niklas Sule, Mats Hummels, David Alaba; Javi Martinez, Thiago Alcantara; Serge Gnabry, James Rodriguez, Franck Ribery; Robert Lewandowski.
Bayern Munich will come into this match full of confidence having secured a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture several weeks ago. Liverpool, however, will be optimistic that they can progress after denying their hosts a crucial away goal at Anfield.
