Thanks for joining our coverage today. Until next time, goodbye.
Defeat for Barcelona means they sit just one point ahead of Atletico Madrid, setting things up very nicely for their trip to the capital to tackle Diego Simeone's side after the international break. Meanwhile, Real Betis rise to 12th in the table and are now just a single point behind the top-seven and tackle Villarreal in two weeks' time.
What an incredible game at Camp Nou! Real Betis secure their first LaLiga win on Barcelona soil in almost 20 years and Valverde's side suffer what could be a damaging defeat ahead of the international break. First-half goals from Junior and Joaquin left Betis cruising at the break but a second half full of twists and turns kept us on the edge of our seats. Messi pulled one back for the hosts but an error from Ter Stegen saw Lo Celso restore Betis' two-goal advantage. Vidal then scored to provide fresh hope before Rakitic was sent off for a second bookable offence minutes later, with Canales then scoring Betis' fourth. There was still time for drama as Messi's second of the game gave Barca hope but they were unable to capitalise in the final minutes.
90' + 4' The four minutes of added time are up but the action continues due to the delay after Barcelona's third goal.
A. Vidal
90' + 2' Vidal's introduction at half-time has been extremely decisive. He has provided more steel to Barcelona's midfield, got his name on the scoresheet and has now registered a late assist which gives the hosts hope of a dramatic finale.
L. Messi
90' + 2' GOOOOOAL! 4-3! Vidal has space inside the area and latches onto Suarez's inviting pass through, then tapping the ball across for Messi to tuck home easily. Real Betis plead for offside and, after a delay for a VAR check, a goal is awarded!
90' + 1' The fourth official has signalled four minutes of additional time.
89' WIDE! A huge chance goes begging for Barcelona! Suarez floats a cross towards the back post where Pique seems to take the ball away from Vidal, who had an easy finish, heading wide wide of the mark.
T. Inui
G. Lo Celso
87' Betis make their final change of the game as Paris Saint-Germain loanee Lo Celso makes way after a fine performance, with his place taken by Inui.
85' This has been a sensational game! Valverde will be furious with his Barcelona side for making two big errors mere minutes after finding the back of the net and allowing Real Betis to immediately restore their two-goal advantage on both occasions.
Junior Firpo
83' Junior has been exceptional today. After scoring the opening goal, he has continued to cause Barcelona problems in the wide positions and has regularly found room to work with.
Sergio Canales
83' GOOOOOOOOOOAL! 4-2 Betis! Unbelievable! Junior finds space beyond Roberto and drills a superb ball into the middle where Canales is lurking, stabbing home easily just inside the six-yard box.
81' RED CARD! Oh my word! Barcelona shoot themselves in the foot again! Rakitic lunges in on Lo Celso in midfield and picks up a deserved yellow card, which sees the referee issue marching orders to the Croatia midfielder.
M. El-Haddadi
79' Munir timed his run superbly and his pass to Vidal took Lopez out of the game. We are now set for an extremely interesting finale. VAR took a quick look at the goal but did not spot an infringement.
A. Vidal
79' GOOOOAL! 3-2! Barcelona are back in it again! Messi plays a killer pass through the defence to Munir and he unselfishly taps a ball across to Vidal, who tucks home into an empty net.
78' Ter Stegen's mistake is inexcusable at the best of times but it seems to have ended any hopes of Barcelona fighting back in the game. Having just pulled one back, his error has quickly put Betis back in the driving seat.
Sergio León
Loren Morón
76' A late attacking change for Betis as Loren makes way for the introduction of Sergio Leon.
75' Canales strikes for goal with the free-kick but can only hit the wall. From the resulting corner, Betis play it short and are forced all the way back to the halfway line as there is no space to exploit.
A. Vidal
Yellow Card
73' Betis continue to put Barcelona under pressure and Vidal lunges into a challenge on Loren, conceding a free-kick in a decent position and having his name taken by the referee.
71' Another assist for Tello, who has proven to be a thorn in the side of his former club in this game.
G. Lo Celso
71' GOOOOOAL! 3-1 Betis! A disaster for Ter Stegen! Tello drags a ball back into the middle where Lo Celso strikes at goal but it is straight at the Germany international. However, he is unable to clutch onto possession and only palms the effort over his head and into the net.
71' The atmosphere has picked up from the home fans after Messi's goal from the spot, with supporters clearly believing their side could complete a comeback.
Carles Aleñá
Sergio Busquets
69' Third and final change for Barcelona as Alena takes the place of Busquets, who was carrying a yellow card.
A. Mandi
Yellow Card
69' Betis are under pressure now and Mandi fouls Munir with a late challenge, conceding a free-kick and earning a yellow card.
L. Messi
Penalty Goal
68' GOAL! Barcelona pull one back! Messi marks his return from injury with a goal by smashing a penalty into the top corner, giving Lopez no chance.
Yellow Card
67' Yellow card Cristian Tello Herrera
66' PENALTY! Tello drags Alba from behind inside the area and the referee has pointed to the penalty spot. Betis are appealing that the incident occured outside the area but the referee judges it differently - and replays show his decision was correct.
65' WIDE! Tello shapes up to shoot and beats the defender with a fine dummy before drilling an effort that flies just wide of Ter Stegen's post. However, Betis are unable to threaten from the resulting corner.
64' Into the final half hour at Camp Nou and Barcelona need a late resurgence to avoid what would be a surprise defeat at the hands of a Real Betis side who began the game in the bottom half of the table.
Sergio Canales
62' Substitution Joaquín Sánchez Rodríguez Sergio Canales Madrazo
Sergio Busquets
Yellow Card
59' Busquets is judged to have fouled Loren but is not happy with the referee's decision and picks up a yellow card for dissent.
58' WIDE! Barcelona are growing in the game and Messi combines with Suarez once again, with the latter drilling a fierce shot into the side netting.
M. El-Haddadi
57' Valverde calls for Barcelona's second change of the game as Munir takes the place of Malcom.
56' Huge moment for Barcelona as Messi feeds through Roberto and he cuts a pass back across goal, beyond the reach of Lopez. However, Vidal is unable to take advantage.
55' Malcom drills Barcelona's latest corner towards the near post but Joaquin is on hand to relieve the danger, clearing the ball away.
53' After a shaky start to the second period, Betis are starting to find their rhythm again. However, Barcelona look a lot stronger in midfield since Vidal's introduction.
51' Suarez and Messi combine inside the box, with the latter seeing a shot deflected behind for a corner. The delivery is whipped towards the near post where Busquets has space but he can only nod a header over the bar.
50' First chance of the half for Betis sees Tello try to pick out Joaquin with a teasing ball across the face of goal but Ter Stegen is quick to get down to smother possession.
48' The hosts are looking much better off the ball as they quickly put Betis under pressure but breaking down the visiting defence is still proving to be difficult. Messi tries to curl a low finish into the bottom corner but his effort flashes wide of the post.
46' Barcelona immediately push forward and Vidal makes an early impression on the game, drilling a shot at goal that Lopez saves before collecting the loose ball.
46' Real Betis restart the action in Catalonia as they look to hold on for what would be a famous victory.
A. Vidal
46' An expected change at the break for Barcelona as Arthur makes way for the introduction of Vidal.
Betis will look to continue in the same fashion after the restart and will be wary of an immediate response from Barcelona. For the hosts, changes look like they are needed and the introduction of Vidal into the heart of midfield could prove to be decisive as he could mimic the quality performance shown so far by Carvalho.
A brilliant display from Real Betis so far, who take a two-goal lead into the break following goals from Junior and Joaquin. The visitors have been devastating on the counter and resilient in defence, with Barcelona unable to find a response and looking rather surprised by the performance of the away side.
45' + 1' There is a single minute of added time at the end of the first half.
I. Rakitić
Yellow Card
44' Rakitic tries to snatch possession off Joaquin on the edge of Betis' penalty area but instead concedes a foul, picking up a booking in the process.
42' The hosts are upping the tempo heading into the latter stages of the first half but clear-cut chances are still difficult to come by, as Suarez lashes a shot way over the top of Lopez's goal.
40' WIDE! Barcelona have no response to the quick press from Betis! The visitors quickly win possession and surge forward once again with Loren drilling a shot wide of the mark from just outside the area.
38' Barcelona simply have no options when they push into the final third as Betis are quick to put everyone behind the ball on defensive duty.
36' Real Betis look unstoppable on the counter and look like extending their lead in every attack. Barcelona need a reshuffle during the interval as they have fallen well below expectations.
34' GOOOOOOAL! 2-0 Betis! Again the visitors find space in the wide positions and again they make it count! Junior's drilled cross goes all the way through and Tello pulls a pass back across goal where Joaquin provides a one-touch finish to double Betis' advantage.
34' Really unselfish from Tello to pass the ball back across goal to Joaquin as he picked up possession in an area that invited a shot at goal. He elected to pass to his captain instead and Betis reap the rewards.
33' Barcelona look shellshocked by Betis' style of play and continue to struggle. The home fans have also been rather silent and unable to spark their side into a more positive showing.
31' WIDE! Junior surges into space down the left before drilling a fine delivery into the middle where Loren stabs an effort wide, although the offside flag is raised.
29' Suarez has struggled to establish a foothold in the game as Real Betis are doing extremely well to limit his opportunities in possession.
27' Real Betis have not won at Camp Nou for almost 20 years, last tasting victory in a 2-0 triumph in May 1998.
25' WHAT A SAVE! The free-kick is floated into the middle by Messi and Lenglet lunges to volley an effort at goal. Lopez is equal to the effort though as he pushes the ball behind with a strong hand and the resulting corner comes to nothing.
A. Guardado
Yellow Card
24' Messi is growing into the game as he skips through the midfield before being hauled back by Guardado, who picks up the game's first yellow card.
22' A brilliant start for Real Betis but they will be wary. Barcelona have won 12 points from losing positions so far this season, more than any other LaLiga side.
Junior Firpo
20' GOOOOOOAL! 1-0 Betis! The visitors hit on the counter as Carvalho feeds a ball through the defence to Junior, who has no support but beats Roberto and shifts the ball onto his right foot before drilling a finish past Ter Stegen at the near post.
William Carvalho
20' Carvalho has been extremely impressive at the start of the game, tidying things up in midfield, but that ball shows the impact he can have in attack. Superb work from the Portugal international.
19' Malcom's pace is again crucial for Barcelona in the attack as he surges into space and lofts a cross toward the back post where Junior clears for a corner. However, the delivery is poor and Betis clear the ball away.
18' Lenglet fouls Loren in a position that gives Betis an opportunity to float a free-kick into the box. Joaquin is unsurprisingly the man to deliver but Bartra is beaten to the ball and Barcelona will look to hit on the counter.
16' A rather slow start from Barcelona, who will have Atletico Madrid watching the game attentively after their last-gasp victory over Athletic Bilbao yesterday saw Diego Simeone's side move to within just one point of the defending champions.
14' Barcelona seem to have had the wind taken out of their sails after their electric start and Betis will be delighted with their response to all the early pressure they faced.
12' Betis' set-up is slightly different to what was expected as Setien's side utilitise a 3-4-3 shape that is proving to be effective so far. The front three are extremely quick on the counter, while the midfield quartet are doing well to mop up any loose balls before starting the burst forward.
10' Malcom has looked very lively in the opening 10 minutes after what has been a difficult start to life in Catalonia for him. With Coutinho and Dembele both absent, this is a huge opportunity for him to make an impression.
8' Barcelona certainly look frail in defence but you have to wonder whether Betis will live to regret the two decent opportunities that they have missed already.
6' OVER! Betis looking dangerous on the counter as Lo Celso teases a cross into the middle where Joaquin is lurking but Ter Stegen charges off his line to narrow the angle and Joaquin blazes a shot over the top of the bar.
5' Lo Celso surges into space and wins a corner after Pique's recovery challenge. Joaquin drills the delivery towards the near post but Loren can only stab the ball out of play.
4' Betis continue to face a constant wave of Barcelona pressure in the early stages of the game as the visitors struggle to get out of their own penalty area, with Valverde's high press proving to be effective.
2' Strong start for the hosts as Malcom plays a dangerous ball into Messi at the near post but he does not connect properly with his finish.
1' We are underway at Camp Nou where Barcelona get the action started after Suarez is awarded with LaLiga's Player of the Month award for October.
The two teams are on the field ahead of the start of the game.
Real Betis have failed to win in their last 16 LaLiga games at Camp Nou and have not won in the league against Barcelona for 10 years.
Betis coach Quique Setien makes three changes from the 1-1 draw with AC Milan as Sidnei, Guardado and Loren all earn a start. Feddal, Sanabria and Canales drop to the bench as a result. Both Tello and Bartra feature from the start against their former club.
Valverde makes two changes to the Barca side held at the San Siro in midweek as Malcom and Messi earn starts, the latter making his return from injury. Philippe Coutinho is absent through injury and there is no place in the squad for Ousmane Dembele, who missed two training sessions this week and dominated the pre-match headlines on Saturday.
Betis subs: Joel Robles, Sergo Canales, Antonio Barragan, Antonio Sanabria, Zouhair Feddal, Sergio Leon, Takashi Inui.
Real Betis XI (3-5-2): Pau Lopez; Aissa Mandi, Marc Bartra, Sidnei; Cristian Tello, Giovani Lo Celso, William Carvalho, Andres Guardado, Junior; Joaquin, Loren Moron.
Barcelona subs: Jasper Cillessen, Carles Alena, Arturo Vidal, Denis Suarez, Samuel Umtiti, Munir El Haddadi, Nelson Semedo.
Barcelona XI (4-3-3): Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Sergi Roberto, Clement Lenglet, Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba; Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, Arthur; Malcom, Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi.
Both Barcelona and Betis enter this match on the back of 1-1 draws with the two Milan sides, with the former held by Inter in the Champions League and the Andalusian outfit securing a point at home against AC Milan in the Europa League. However, Betis' European campaign has come alongside less impressive results domestically.
Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the LaLiga clash between Barcelona and Real Betis, where Ernesto Valverde's side are looking to extend their lead at the top of the table.
