The exit of Bandari leaves Gor Mahia as the only Kenyan side still taking part in the competition after progressing to the quarter-finals

Bandari FC are out of the Cecafa Kagame Cup after battling to a 0-0 draw against Azam FC in a Group D match played on Friday.

The Kenyan side was in need of a win to be assured of reaching the last eight of the competition, having found themselves in a precarious position after failing to win their two opening matches.

Bandari, who going into the final match were sitting third in the group with two points, drew 1-1 with leaders and Ugandan champions KCCA in their first match before sharing the spoils with Rwandan outfit Mukura Victory Sports (2-2).

The Dockers, who were making their first appearance in the competition, struggled against the reigning champions as they failed to break down their resilient backline.

The best chance for the Kenyan side came mid-way through the first half when striker Wycliffe Ochomo gave the ball away while he was in a position to shoot into an empty net.

Bandari kept pressing for an opener and once again it was Ochomo who was denied by the woodwork after rising high to meet a cross from Sammy Meja.

The pressure by Bandari almost paid off in the 43rd minute when Ochomo powered another header which rattled the woodwork after Fred Nkata had done the spadework and even a follow up from Yema Mwana could not bear fruit as the ball went out.

Second half substitute Benjamin Mosha, who came in for Darius Msagha, also missed a great chance for Bandari in the 68th minute after he latched onto a through ball inside the box but failed to keep it down.

Bandari will now return home to prepare for the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season which will kick off on August 31 as well as the Caf Confederation Cup.
