Commentary

That's all from us, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until the next one comes around, goodbye!
That momentous victory sends Augsburg firmly into mid-table, as they climb three places to 11th on nine points. The poor start to the season continues for Bayern, whose winless streak in the Bundesliga is extended to four games. They drop to fourth, three points behind new leaders Dortmund, and with Freiburg and Union Berlin still yet to play, it could well be the case that Bayern have to fight tooth and nail for the Bundesliga title this season.
Gikiewicz's performance showcased how resolute Augsburg's defending was throughout the game, and gave an indication into how their game-plan evolved once Bayern went into all-out-attack mode. As well as making six saves, several of which kept his side in the game, the goalkeeper also completed six clearances, as well as completing more touches and passes than any other Augsburg player, 27 of which found their way into Bayern's half.
What a result for Augsburg! That close-range Berisha goal sees them pip their illustrious Bavarian neighbours 1-0, securing their first home win of the season and condemning Die Roten to their first loss of 2022-23! Bayern piled on the pressure as the half wore on, but couldn't puncture the hosts' defence, which stood firm throughout. The visitors' attack was nowhere near the level they showed against Barcelona in midweek, but the attempts they did have were all repelled thanks to a fantastic performance from Gikiewicz between the sticks!
90' + 6' FULL-TIME: AUGSBURG 1-0 BAYERN MUNICH.
90' + 5' SAVED!!! It's not cleared properly by the hosts and Davies swings a cross back into the box. It's heading for the bottom corner, but not before Gikiewicz stretches to tip it around the post, and that might well be that!
90' + 5' OFF THE LINE!!! Kimmich swings in a late corner, which Neuer again rises for, but his header is kept out by a fantastic reflex save from Gikiewicz and it's cleared off the line by Bauer! What a stop at this late stage!
L. Petkov
M. Berisha
Augsburg
90' + 4' Augsburg make a change very, very late on, as they bring off the goalscorer Berisha for Lukas Petkov to see out the last few moments.
90' + 3' OVER!!! Neuer comes up for a late Bayern corner, and gets his head to Kimmich's delivery, but can only send it over the top of the bar!
90' + 2' Sane is dispossessed by Gruezo and the hosts can break, but De Ligt wins the ball off Jensen and back come Bayern!
90' We'll play four additional minutes, but is it enough time for Bayern to snatch a late goal or two?
88' WIDE!!! After several passing attempts into the box are thwarted, Gnabry cuts inside and links up with Muller. The return ball for Gnabry instead falls to Sabitzer, who smashes a first-time shot just wide of Gikiewicz's right post!
86' A loose ball is flicked on by Jensen to Berisha, and the striker runs forward on the break. Coming left, he looks to beat De Ligt but is felled by a sliding challenge from Kimmich, who is judged to have won the ball and Bayern get it back!
84' They've had plenty of attacks, but rarely are Bayern looking like the threatening, unstoppable red machine of old. Their slow progression of the ball in forward areas is exactly what Augsburg, who have long since been putting at least nine men behind the ball, want, and they'll need to find another way through the hosts if they're to rescue this game.
82' Gnabry whips a beauty of a cross towards the back post, but Hahn gets back to scythe it away from danger before Davies can arrive to finish!
80' As Bayern pile on the pressure late in the game, it's worth remembering how good De Ligt has been at the back for them. As well as completing more passes than anyone else on the pitch, he's managed two tackles, clearances and interceptions apiece, winning the ball 10 times and also contesting eight aerial duels. If not for him, Augsburg's potential upset win could have been all-but sealed by now.
J. Stanišić
J. Musiala
Bayern München
78' Musiala has also been snuffed out at every turn by the hosts, and he's withdrawn now for Josip Stanisic.
E. Choupo-Moting
S. Mané
Bayern München
78' Mane's become increasingly frustrated with every passing chance, and Bayern look to a different attacking option off the bench, in the form of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
78' Vargas attempts to escape the attention of Kimmich and crosses into the box, but whips it well over any intended targets and it sails over the net.
76' Jensen's flicked header gives Berisha space down the left, and his low cross to the front post is dived upon by Neuer with Jensen closing in!
F. Jensen
F. Niederlechner
Augsburg
75' Niederlechner's not been as much of a standout in the second half, but has still done well, and he comes off now for Fredrik Jensen.
R. Vargas
Iago
Augsburg
75' Iago's down on his haunches, and comes off for Ruben Vargas following an impressive performance down the left.
74' Sane finds Mane in the box, and he goes down under pressure from Gumny! There's calls for a penalty, and the referee looks to have pointed, but it's at the net, not the penalty spot as he gives a goal kick!
72' SAVED!!!! Musiala puts Sane through on goal, but Gikiewicz races out and parries the winger's shot into the air!!! Gouweleeuw attempts to hook it clear, but the ball strikes Gnabry and bobbles behind for a goal kick to Augsburg!
71' Bayern come forward on the counter through Mane. He attempts to put Davies through down the left, but there's too much weight on the pass and it goes behind!
M. Sabitzer
L. Goretzka
Bayern München
69' Goretzka's the next off for Bayern, replaced in midfield by Marcel Sabitzer. The two were swapped, albeit the other way around, at half-time against Barcelona.
68' Gikiewicz gets a strong hand to Kimmich's corner, punching clear, and wins a free-kick after the referee sees he was impeded by Mane.
M. Pedersen
E. Demirović
Augsburg
67' Demirovic's been the quieter of Augsburg's attackers in this game, and comes off now for the more defensively minded Mads Pedersen.
65' A long clearance has Berisha racing onto it, and he engages in a brilliant tussle for the ball with De Ligt. The Bayern defender stands strong though, and wins a free-kick following a push from the goalscorer.
64' Gikiewicz saved a penalty for the second time this season in Augsburg's win over Werder, exactly as many saves as he managed from the first 18 spot-kicks he faced in the Bundesliga. Since matchday two through to kick-off today, the Polish goalkeeper prevented 5.6 goals according to xG (6 conceded instead of 11.6), a league high during this time.
62' WIDE!!! Bayern are queueing up in the box as Muller finds Upamecano to his right. He cuts the ball across to Musiala, whose first-time shot misses the right-hand post by mere inches!
S. Gnabry
N. Mazraoui
Bayern München
62' Mazraoui's been unable to shake off a knock picked up in that Gouweleeuw challenge, and comes off now for Serge Gnabry in Bayern's first substitution.
61' SAVED!!! Sane finds Muller in space with a reverse pass, and he surges down the right side of the box before firing a shot across goal that is tipped around the far post by Gikiewicz!
61' Neuer's kicking has been poor throughout the game, and another low clearance falls straight to an Augsburg player before the Bayern captain is bailed out by his defence!
Iago
Assist
Augsburg
59' The touch from Iago didn't even look intentional, but either way, what a pass it proved to be!
M. Berisha
Goal
Augsburg
59' GOOOOAAAAAALLLLL!!!! Augsburg break the deadlock!!! A free-kick from inside the home side's own half is fired into the box, where Iago nudges it across goal with his knee. Berisha arrives on the penalty spot to latch onto the loose ball, and fires beyond Neuer to make it 1-0 to Augsburg in this Bavarian derby!
J. Gouweleeuw
Yellow Card
Augsburg
58' Gouweleeuw chops down Mazraoui with a woeful sliding challenge, and although Bayern play advantage and cross into the box, the play comes to nothing and the referee comes back to book the Augsburg captain.
56' Kimmich rolls the ball right through the crowded box, where again Davies is arriving. He's a fraction off bringing the ball under control, but cannot do so and it rolls out!
55' A poor clearance from Neuer is seized upon by Rexhbecaj, but his ball back into the box is hit too hard and it flies behind for a goal kick!
55' SAVED!!! Forward come Bayern and Musiala feeds Mane. He has time to cut inside and shoot from just inside the area, but his effort into the far corner is held by Gikiewicz!
54' Goretzka lines up a shot from 25 yards, but the low effort takes a nick before rolling into the gloves of Gikiewicz.
53' Although it's been pretty even so far, this game sees the league’s best attack, in 19-goal Bayern, will face the worst attack in Augsburg’s four goals. Bayern have had a league-high 142 shots and the highest xG (15.9), FCA are bottom in both regards (57 shots, 3.6 xG).
51' CHANCE!!! Kimmich's superb lofted pass through the defence has Davies racing onto it, but Gikiewicz runs off his line to punch it away and over the sideline!
50' Mane crosses for Goretzka, but his header is blocked away. It comes back to Musiala, who looks to cut inside and shoot, but he is blocked off by a packed Augsburg defence and the attack stalls!
48' Bayern break again and Sane feeds Mane. He looks for Muller in the box, but a deflection takes his cross behind for a corner.
47' Bayern race forward and Sane crosses to the back post. Musiala's downward header is goalwards, but not powerful in the slightest and Gumny clears!
46' Muller kicks off for Bayern, and the second half is underway!
The teams are back out for the second half, and can Bayern improve in the second half to win this game?
Niederlechner was a real handful for Bayern's defence in the first half, hitting the target with three shots and having another blocked. Two of these were big chances, and the attacking midfielder had four touches in the box, as well as contesting eight duels. Talisman.
The first half ends, with Bayern being far from their best thus far and unable to break the deadlock! Augsburg had the best of the early chances, with Niederlechner's thunderous shot forcing a very good save from Neuer! Bayern grew back into the game though, and could've taken the lead through Musiala if not for an excellent Gikiewicz save. All to play for in the second half, with the champions looking to avoid four draws in a row.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: AUGSBURG 0-0 BAYERN MUNICH.
A. Hahn
Yellow Card
Augsburg
45' + 1' Hahn flies in recklessly on Davies and catches him late, warranting a free-kick and a yellow card for the Augsburg winger.
45' We'll play an additional minute before the first half draws to a close.
44' CHANCE!!! Muller floats a pass to Musiala in the box, who flicks the ball over the top of Gikiewicz. It's bouncing towards the goal line, but not before Bauer hooks away a clearance, and a late Goretzka challenge gives Augsburg a free-kick!
42' After Goretzka has an attempt from the edge of the box blocked, the ball skews Davies' way and he has a go too. It again takes a deflection, this time off Gruezo, and Gikiewicz can't quite reach it as it bounces behind for a corner!
41' Mane looks to have been fouled right on the edge of the box by Bauer, but there's absolutely minimal, if any, contact and the referee waves play on!
39' WIDE!!! Bayern counter and Mane sends Davies surging down the left. He hits a low, first-time cross into the area, but Muller, sliding in at the back post, can only put it wide!
38' OVER!!! What a chance!!! Demirovic brings down the ball from the free-kick and finds Iago outside him with a clever reverse pass. He floats the ball into the box, and Bauer arrives, heading beyond both Neuer and the crossbar!!
S. Mané
Yellow Card
Bayern München
38' Niederlechner releases Demirovic down the left, but is crunched by a sliding Mane as he releases the pass. The Bayern forward is booked, and the hosts have a good crossing opportunity from this free-kick!
37' Bayern move the ball forward well and Sane has it on the right. He cuts it back to Goretzka on the edge of the box, who arrives late but can only smash the ball miles over the Augsburg crossbar!
35' For the first time since November 2018, Bayern are on a three-game winless run in the first half of the season. They last endured a longer wait for a win in the league in 2001-02 under Ottmar Hitzfeld (seven games). A fourth Bundesliga draw in a row would equal their club record – this last happened in early 1995 under Giovanni Trapattoni.
33' SAVED!!! Davies finds Muller centrally, whose first-time ball puts Musiala through. He looks to find the bottom corner with a side-footed finish, but Gikiewicz does brilliantly to tip it wide!!
32' CHANCE!!! Muller's cross to Mane at the back post his half-controlled by Musiala, who hooks the ball goalwards off-balance before it's caught by Gikiewicz!
M. Berisha
Yellow Card
Augsburg
31' Berisha races in late and catches the outstretched leg of Kimmich as he passes forward, and the Augsburg striker picks up the first yellow card of the game for his troubles.
30' A good attacking header from Mane flicks it over the defence for Sane to chase, but he's closed down quickly and Iago gets across to win the ball in the box!
28' Demirovic smashes into Mazraoui as he clears the ball, and the Bayern right-back has felt the full force of that challenge, and is still down receiving treatment.
26' OVER!!! Another cross into the Bayern box, this time from Berisha's wide free-kick, isn't cleared properly, and the ball skews up to Bauer in the six-yard box who blazes it over the bar!
25' SAVED!!! Gruezo's cross isn't dealt with by Upamecano, and the ball drops to Niederlechner on the edge of the box. He rifles a left-footed shot towards the bottom corner, and Neuer has to react quickly to parry it away!
24' CHANCE!!! After an Augsburg corner is half-cleared, it's headed back into the box by Iago. Berisha gets a flick on it, but there's not enough power on the header to test Neuer.
22' Twelve points from the first six games is Bayern’s worst return at this stage for 12 years in the Bundesliga. Back then, they had just eight points under Louis van Gaal in 2010-11. In contrast, Bayern’s record of nine points, 15 goals scored, and one conceded after the first three matchdays, was the best for any side ever in Bundesliga history.
20' Mane is almost able to turn Maier, but clips the heels of the Augsburg defender in his attempt and concedes a free-kick. He would've been clean through on goal had that not been given.
19' Augsburg have lost their first three home games of a Bundesliga season for the first time. A fourth defeat in a row would equal their negative club record in the top flight, with 2018 the only time such a run of losses has occurred.
17' SAVED!!!! Great play from Bayern as Musiala cuts out a forward pass and finds Muller. He puts Sane into space in the box, but his low right-footed shot is stopped and held by Gikiewicz!
15' WIDE!!! Sane receives a cross-field pass before cutting inside and finding Davies wide to his left. The left-back clips a beauty of a ball into the box with the outside of his foot, finding Sane on the run, but the Germany international's half-volley glances across the face of goal before going wide!
13' STOPPED!!! Mazraoui finds Mane sprinting into space with an excellent throughball beyond the back four. The forward races onto the ball and looks to round Gikiewicz, but the Augsburg goalkeeper deflects the ball into the air and catches it gladly!
12' SAVED!!! A ball over the top for Niederlechner finds him after he shrugs off De Ligt impressively, but he can't get enough power on the bouncing ball and his half-volley is saved by Neuer!
10' Mazraoui's cross is deflected into the air and Mane brings it down. Musiala crosses for Davies at the back post, but he's dispossessed after cutting inside and aiming to shoot!
8' Bayern have won eight of their 11 away Bundesliga away games at Augsburg. They average more points (2.3) and have a higher win percentage (72) away to FCA than at any other current top-flight side.
6' Musiala and Sane look to play a quick one-two down the right, but Sane's return ball rolls through the legs of his team-mate and behind!
4' Berisha chases Musiala into midfield and shoves him, causing a collision with Kimmich and granting Bayern a free-kick!
2' BLOCKED!!! A Hahn volley from the edge of the box bobbles off Upamecano and into the path of Niederlechner. He smashes a low shot, but De Ligt gets in the way of it before clearing his lines!
1' The hosts kick off, and we are off and running in Bavaria!
The teams head out of the tunnel, and we're just moments away from kick-off in this derby match!
After winning their first three league games, Bayern have drawn their last three in a row. Jamal Musiala’s link with Leroy Sane was instrumental in Die Roten’s second goal against Barcelona, and both start in the front four, with Musiala looking to add to his goal against Stuttgart last time out.
Ermedin Demirovic is the hosts’ top scorer this season, and his winner saw Augsburg beat Werder Bremen in their last match, snapping a three-game losing streak in the process. He starts from the left in this one, with he and the rest of Augsburg’s front four hoping to cause Bayern’s backline some problems.
BAYERN MUNICH SUBS: Sven Ulreich, Benjamin Pavard, Serge Gnabry, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Paul Wanner, Marcel Sabitzer, Ryan Gravenberch, Mathys Tel, Josip Stanisic.
BAYERN MUNICH (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer; Noussair Mazraoui, Dayot Upamecano, Matthijs De Ligt, Alphonso Davies; Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka; Thomas Muller, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane; Sadio Mane.
AUGSBURG SUBS: Daniel Klein, Mads Pedersen, Arne Maier, Julian Baumgartlinger, Ruben Vargas, Daniel Caligiuri, Lukas Petkov, Fredrik Jensen, Raphael Framberger.
AUGSBURG (4-2-3-1): Rafal Gikiewicz; Robert Gumny, Maximilian Bauer, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, Iago; Carlos Gruezo, Elvis Rexhbecaj; Andre Hahn, Florian Niederlechner, Ermedin Demirovic; Mergim Berisha.
Bayern’s start to the season hasn’t exactly been what they’d have hoped for either, with Die Roten lying third behind Freiburg and surprise leaders Union Berlin. A win would take them back to the summit though, and having swept aside Barcelona 2-0 in Europe last time out, Bayern will back themselves for three points here.
Augsburg come into this Bavarian derby having won just two of their six games so far and sit just a point ahead of the relegation spots.
