Commentary

Thank you for joining our coverage, we hope you enjoyed the game! Until next time, goodbye!
Athletic travel to face Celta Vigo next, while Barcelona host Getafe.
Athletic and Barcelona are forced to share the spoils in Bilbao after a keenly-contested encounter. Barcelona enjoyed more of the ball but the hosts were more threatening, registering 16 shots to their opponents' nine. Martinez opened the scoring five minutes into the second half with a deft glancing header following Muniain's corner, but Depay thumped the visitors level with a quarter of an hour to go, smashing a left-footed effort into the top corner at the near post. Both sides pushed hard for a winner and Eric Garcia was sent off deep into stoppage time for a last-man challenge on Nico Williams, but the hosts couldn't score from the free-kick. It finishes 1-1 at San Mames!
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: ATHLETIC CLUB 1-1 BARCELONA
90' + 4' BLOCK! Martinez steps up to take the free-kick, hoping to add to his tally, but he slams his shot into the wall and, as Inaki Williams looks to pick up the pieces for one final effort at goal, the referee blows the final whistle!
Eric García
Red Card
90' + 3' RED CARD! Unable to deal with the searing pace of Nico Williams, Eric Garcia goes to ground as the last man in a desperate attempt to win the ball on the edge of the box, but he catches the Athletic substitute and is shown a straight red card! Barcelona are down to 10 men and Athletic have a free-kick in a very dangerous position!
90' + 1' The game is getting stretched as both sides push for a winner. Spaces are opening up in both sets of defences and there could be one big opportunity left.
89' SAVE! Nico Williams drives forward, making the most of his fresh legs and cuts inside from the right before steering a low effort towards the bottom-left corner, but Neto gets down and holds on!
87' Barcelona get forward in numbers and the Athletic defence is caught out, but Depay's lofted ball out to the right is overhit and goes behind for a goal-kick. There's visible frustration among the Barcelona players.
85' CLOSE! De Jong slips Depay in down the left and the forward works himself a yard before firing towards the far corner with his left foot, but he drags it agonisingly wide of the post!
Emerson
S. Dest
82' Koeman also makes a substitution now, replacing Dest with Emerson in a like-for-like change at right-back.
Oier Zarraga
Dani García
82' Dani Garcia is the next to make way, with Zarraga taking his place in the side for the final eight minutes plus stoppage time.
Jon Morcillo
Álex Berenguer
82' Marcelino makes two more changes as the game draws to a close. Berenguer is off for Morcillo in the first alteration.
79' A right-wing cross is aimed at Depay in the middle, but the forward can't quite connect with his header under pressure and Athletic hack it clear!
Jordi Alba
Yellow Card
76' Alba is booked for a poor challenge on Williams as the Athletic forward advanced down the wing in an attempt to get his side back in front.
Nico Williams
Muniain
76' Marcelino makes a substitution in the immediate aftermath of that goal, replacing Muniain with Nico Williams.
Sergi Roberto
Assist
75' Barcelona battled for the ball in the middle and it broke kindly for Roberto, who spotted Depay's run well and quickly lofted the ball towards him.
M. Depay
Goal
75' GOAL!!! DEPAY SMASHES HOME THE EQUALISER FOR BARCELONA!!! Roberto plays it over the top for the Dutchman's run into space down the left and he rifles a left-footed effort into the top corner of the near post! It's 1-1 now!
73' CROSSBAR! De Jong is fed by Alba just inside the left side of the box and he lifts the ball towards the far corner, but it bounces off the top of the bar and stays out!
70' Barcelona are still searching for an equaliser but they remain a little flat in the final third. Perhaps they didn't miss Messi in their opening game, but they certainly miss him now.
Raúl García
Oihan Sancet
67' Sancet is also replaced for Athletic, with Raul Garcia coming on to take his place up front alongside Williams.
Mikel Vesga
Unai Vencedor
67' Marcelino makes a double-change of his own now. Vencedor goes off for Vesga in the first substitution.
64' Barcelona pick off a pass in their own third and put together a counter-attack of their own, but the Athletic players race back into position and the visitors can't make the most of their opportunity.
Y. Demir
M. Braithwaite
62' Meanwhile, Braithwaite also makes way, with exciting young forward Demir taking his place.
Sergi Roberto
Pedri
62' Koeman makes a double-change now in an attempt to get his team back on level terms. Pedri is replaced by Roberto in the first alteration.
62' De Jong's header in midfield is picked off and Athletic counter quickly. Berenguer shows searing pace to drag his side up the field and slides it in behind for Williams to chase, but Neto is off his line and gets there just in time to hack clear!
60' Berenguer makes a poor decision under pressure, electing to try his luck from distance and getting it all wrong, blazing harmlessly over the bar.
58' Braithwaite charges forward down the left, cuts inside and tries to smash a shot at goal, but it's blocked at point-blank range and Athletic counter quickly, winning a corner at the other end.
56' Athletic are now pushing for a second and force a corner off Araujo, but they can't make the most of this one.
54' Barcelona don't seem to be approaching the game all that differently since going behind. They're still lacking a spark in the final third.
52' SAVE! Dest shows some terrific footwork as he dances past several challenges in the box, but his left-footed snap-shot is tame and Julen makes the save!
Muniain
Assist
50' Muniain's whipped corner to the near post had plenty of pace and allowed Martinez to simply redirect the ball towards the far corner.
Íñigo Martínez
Goal
50' GOAL!!! ATHLETIC TAKE THE LEAD!! Martinez loses Garcia in the middle and races to the near post to meet Muniain's corner, which he glances expertly across goal and inside the far post beyond Neto! It's 1-0 to Athletic!
46' OFF THE LINE! WHAT A BLOCK! Williams chases a long ball down and Neto comes out to help Garcia clear the danger. It falls to Berenguer, however, with Neto completely stranded! The Athletic midfielder strikes at goal, but somehow Araujo gets back to make an unbelievable goal-line clearance!
46' We're back underway for the second half!
Marcelino will likely be content with how dangerous his side look on the counter, despite ceding the majority of the ball to Barcelona. Koeman, meanwhile, will expect a more threatening showing from his men in the second half. The visitors did not create enough clear-cut chances in the first 45 minutes and must also deal with the threat of Williams more effectively.
There goes the half-time whistle! Barcelona have enjoyed the majority of the ball but Athletic have looked the more threatening so far. Williams, in particular, has been bright and has looked the most likely candidate to open the scoring. Barcelona, meanwhile, might feel they should be ahead after Araujo's stunning bicycle kick went in off the post in first-half stoppage time, but it was ruled out for a foul by Braithwaite in the build-up! It's 0-0 at the break!
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: ATHLETIC CLUB 0-0 BARCELONA
45' + 2' NO GOAL! A free-kick is lofted into the area where Braithwaite heads it back across goal, but Julen is out to claim it. The goalkeeper fumbles his catch, however, and it bounces up for Araujo, who directs a bicycle kick in off the post, but the whistle goes and it's ruled out for a foul in the build-up! What a goal that would have been!
45' A series of fouls disrupt the flow of the game and prevent either side from generating any momentum ahead of the break.
43' The game is finely poised as half-time approaches. Barcelona are pushing but remain wary of Athletic's counter-attacking threat.
41' SAVE! The ball comes out to Williams and he hits a dipping volley as it drops onto his foot, but the strike from distance is a little too central and Neto makes the save!
39' Barcelona are probing down their left side, with both Depay and Alba pushing forward and sending crosses into the area, but they can't find their intended targets.
37' Depay is not at all pleased with the referee's decision to award a free-kick to Martinez after a tussle between the pair, feeling that the foul was on him instead. He takes it up with the official, but to no avail.
35' SIDE-NETTING! A throw-in is worked well to Berenguer, who curls in a cross from a deeper position on the right that Williams meets at the near post, but he can only fire into the side-netting! The flag then goes up for offside, so it wouldn't have counted anyway.
33' Depay cuts in from the left and plays a superb ball into space for De Jong to run onto, but the midfielder's first touch is uncharacteristically heavy and forces him towards the byline, taking the momentum out of the move.
R. Araújo
Piqué
31' Pique's injury forces Koeman into an early substitution now, with Araujo coming on to partner Garcia at centre-back.
30' Pique has gone down off the ball and may need to be replaced. He has been in discomfort for a few minutes and it doesn't look as though he can carry on.
Eric García
Yellow Card
28' A last-ditch block puts an end to a Barcelona attack and Athletic launch it long in the hope of hitting the visitors on the break. Garcia hauls Williams down as the ball flies over his head, however, and earns himself a yellow card.
26' WIDE! Williams is proving a serious threat as he runs the left channel for Athletic. He gets to the byline and squeezes a cross in once again, but Vencedor's scuffed effort is narrowly wide of the target!
24' Alba has gone down and is being treated by the medical staff. There's a short delay in proceedings as the left-back is seen to, but it seems as though he will be able to carry on.
22' BLOCK! Williams tears down the left and drives a low cross into the middle for Berenguer, but Alba makes a crucial block from just a few yards out! Barcelona are all over the place at the back, but eventually they manage to clear their lines and regroup.
Íñigo Martínez
Yellow Card
20' Martinez slides into a challenge on Pedri and wins the ball, but catches the young midfielder on the top of the foot with his studs on the follow-through. The referee brandishes a yellow card and the Athletic defender is furious with the decision.
17' BLOCK! Neto panics under pressure from Williams and passes the ball straight to Sancet. The forward feeds Williams in acres of space in the box, but De Jong charges back and puts in a desperate sliding block to turn the ball behind for a corner!
15' Depay drives in from the left before feeding Alba on the edge of the box. The left-back takes a swipe at the ball with his weaker right foot, but it's blocked behind for a corner.
12' CROSSBAR! Sancet receives a cross from the left with his back to goal, but he manages to swivel under pressure and smack a venomous strike at goal that clatters off the crossbar with Neto rooted to the spot! It comes out to Berenguer, whose follow-up strike is saved, but the whistle then goes as Williams is penalised for a foul on Pique.
9' SAVE! Williams puts pressure on Garcia as he tries to shepherd the ball behind for a goal-kick and the forward reaches around his man and manages to divert the ball on target! It squirms under Neto, but the touch off the goalkeeper is just enough to send it the wrong side of the post!
6' MISS! What a miss! Depay does superbly to hold off his man at the byline on the right and cuts the ball back for Braithwaite in acres of space in the box, but the Danish forward leans back and blazes over the bar from 10 yards out! How has he not hit the target?!
3' Athletic start strongly and put Barcelona under some early pressure, forcing a string of corners after Garcia blocked Williams' shot behind. The hosts can't make the breakthrough, however, and Barcelona eventually clear.
1' We're underway in Bilbao!
However, after suffering four consecutive defeats at San Mames in LaLiga against Barcelona between 2015 and 2017, Athletic have lost just one of their last three home games against the Blaugrana in the competition (W1 D1).
Barcelona have won 12 of their last 15 matches against Athletic in LaLiga (D2 L1), including each of the last three. Additionally, the Blaugrana kept nine clean sheets in those 15 games.
Meanwhile, Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman names an unchanged line-up following the 4-2 victory over Real Sociedad. Neto continues in goal with Marc-Andre ter Stegen out injured alongside Ousmane Dembele, Sergio Aguero and Ansu Fati.
Athletic manager Marcelino makes just one change to the starting line-up he named in his side's 0-0 draw with Elche last time out. De Marcos drops to the bench, with Lekue replacing him at right-back.
Barcelona substitutes: Emerson, Ronald Araujo, Riqui Puig, Clement Lenglet, Arnau Tenas, Pablo Gaviria, Alejandro Balde, Nicolas Gonzalez, Yusuf Demir, Rey Manaj, Inaki Pena, Sergi Roberto.
Barcelona XI (4-3-3): Neto; Sergino Dest, Eric Garcia, Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets, Pedri; Antoine Griezmann, Memphis Depay, Martin Braithwaite.

Barcelona's league campaign got off to a much-needed winning start last time out as the post-Lionel Messi era began against Real Sociedad, and they will hope to boost morale once again in Bilbao.
