Commentary

That's all for tonight, thanks for tuning in. Goodbye!
Villa fail to move above Arsenal and Leeds in the table and remain 11th in the league. Meanwhile, West Brom have themselves to blame after a late mistake cost them a vital three points in the race for relegation survival and now look destined to drop down into the Championship. Aston Villa travel to Merseyside to face Everton, whilst West Brom host a struggling Wolves side at The Hawthorns.
A thrilling 2-2 draw including a penalty each, an own goal and a last minute equaliser. El Ghazi opened the scoring with a penalty before Pereira equalised from the spot himself before the break. A quick start to the second half saw the Baggies take the lead through a Mings own goal before substitute Davis equalised with his first Premier League goal. A devastating result for West Brom who look likely to be relegated from the division now.
90' + 4' FULL TIME: Aston Villa 2-2 West Brom
K. Davis
Goal
Aston Villa
90' + 2' GOALLLL! DAVIS GETS HIS FIRST PREMIER LEAGUE GOAL! It's heartbreak for the Baggies as a mix up between Bartley and Johnstone allows Davis to sneak in and poke the ball home for his first ever goal in the Premier League! That could be the end of West Brom's survival hopes and it was down to their own mistake.
Wesley
Bertrand Traoré
Aston Villa
90' + 1' Villa make their third change as Wesley makes his return from injury replacing Traore.
90' There will be four additional minutes to play at the end of this half.
87' OFF THE POST AGAIN! The ball bounces around the box and falls to Davis who snatches at his shot and the ball smashes off the post! That is so unlucky for the youngster whilst West Brom breathe a massive sigh of relief!
D. O'Shea
A. Maitland-Niles
West Bromwich Albion
86' O'Shea replaces Maitland-Niles as West Brom make their second change and look to hold on to their precious 2-1 lead.
85' There's just five minutes of normal time to play in this one. Will Villa find a late equaliser and deny the Baggies all three points?
84' The ball breaks for Davis on the penalty spot, he turns and shoots but his shot is weak and straight at Johnstone. That was the chance for him to get his first goal in the Premier League.
K. Davis
R. Barkley
Aston Villa
82' Barkley is taken off for Davis in Villa's second substitution of the game. Dean Smith has to go for it now if they're to take anything from this match.
81' McGinn tries a shot from distance but it was always going wide of the post. Villa are starting to look a bit desperate in their attacks and are really missing Jack Grealish.
J. Ramsey
Douglas Luiz
Aston Villa
78' Douglas Luiz is replaced by Ramsey as Dean Smith makes his first change of the match.
O. Yokuşlu
Yellow Card
West Bromwich Albion
77' Yokuslu goes into the book after a cynical foul on Watkins. He took one for the team there and picks up the second booking of the match.
76' Gallagher does so well to release Phillips down the left, who pulls the ball back to Pereira who tries his luck from distance and Martinez is equal to it and is forced into conceding a corner! Martinez is fuming with his defence at the fact Pereira had so much space on the edge of the box.
73' WHAT A SAVE! Martinez somehow keeps the ball out from Villa conceding another own goal! Konsa tries to clear the ball with a header, it comes up off the post and Martinez reacts brilliantly to claw it over the crossbar and behind for a corner! Villa living dangerously at the back.
70' Targett's corner is wasted as Johnstone comes and claims the ball comfortably. Diagne looks a little bit helpless on his own against Mings and Konsa from the kick forward. Can West Brom hold on for the final 20 minutes?
M. Phillips
C. Robinson
West Bromwich Albion
67' Sam Allardyce makes the first change of the match as Robinson is replaced by Phillips. Allardyce obviously feels the need for fresh legs in midfield to help on the defensive side of this game.
66' Villa have had 93% possession in the last five minutes of play. West Brom are defending for their lives and somehow keeping Villa from scoring an equaliser still!
63' OFF THE POST! Traore drives down the right side of the penalty box and swings a shot at goal but it comes off the outside of post!
61' WHAT A SAVE! El Mohamady catches a volley perfectly and his shot is dipping and swerving towards goal but Johnstone makes a fantastic save down to his right to deny the Egyptian! Villa are keeping the pressure on here!
59' Villa win another corner after some good work between Traore and El Ghazi this time. The home side are really putting pressure on the visitors now, looking for that equaliser to get them back into the game.
58' SO CLOSE! Barkley receives the ball on the edge of the box and drills a shot towards goal. Bartley does well to get a deflection on the shot but it almost zips past Johnstone into his own net. Villa win a corner after a dangerous piece of play from the home side.
57' Villa are beginning to find their feet again and are dominating possession with West Brom camped around the edge of their penalty box.
C. Gallagher
Yellow Card
West Bromwich Albion
54' Gallagher picks up the first booking of the match after a late challenge on Targett by the dugout.
53' Matheus Pereira has either scored (nine) or assisted (five) 14 of West Brom's 29 Premier League goals this season (48%); only Harry Kane for Tottenham (61%) has had a hand in a higher proportion of his side's goals in the 2020-21 competition.
50' West Brom have started the second half as they finished the first and are well on top in this game now. It's been a really sloppy start to the second half by the hosts who need to regain their composure after that early set back.
T. Mings
Own Goal
Aston Villa
47' GOALLL! DIAGNE MAKES IT 2-1! A mistake from Konsa allows Diagne through on goal and his shot towards the far post is deflected in by Mings who was tracking back to try and stop the shot! It could go down as an own goal but the away side won't care about that one bit. Could that be a vital goal in the Baggies' attempt at staying in the division?
46' We're underway for the second half.
As things stand, Villa will fail to leapfrog Arsenal and Leeds into the top half of the table and remain 11th. Meanwhile, West Brom will be nine points adrift from safety and be all but relegated from the Premier League.
Villa started brightly and got their reward after Ajeyi made a silly mistake and fouled Barkley in the box with El Ghazi putting the hosts in front early on. West Brom fought back and have ended the half the stronger side after Pereira levelled the score from the penalty spot and also had a freekick smash against the crossbar just a short while later. West Brom need the three points desperately so it should be an exciting second half at Villa Park!
45' + 2' HALF TIME: Aston Villa 1-1 West Brom
45' There will be two minutes of added time at the end of this half.
44' Watkins gets his head onto a cross from El Ghazi but Townsend does just enough to stop Watkins getting any power on the header. Villa are starting to threaten again towards the end of the first half.
42' OFF THE CROSSBAR! Pereira swings in a free kick and it loops all the way onto the crossbar with Martinez beaten! That is desperately unlucky from the Baggies midfielder.
41' SO UNLUCKY! Pereira spins Douglas Luiz with a brilliant piece of skill, cuts the ball back for Maitland-Niles but his shot is pushed out by Martinez! Mings tries to shield the ball but concedes a throw in by the corner flag. That was brilliant play by the away side and especially Pereira who has been the best player on the pitch so far.
39' Bartley is down holding his face after a collision with Watkins. The referee just has a talk with Watkins after the striker used his arm to jump but hit Bartley in the cheek with his elbow.
36' Konsa does really well, bringing the ball out of defence and linking up with Traore before trying to get a low cross into the box but it's deflected behind for a corner. That was really good from the defender who is looking to make a late shout for an England call-up for the Euros.
33' Matheus Pereira's penalty against Aston Villa was the 108th taken in the Premier League this season, only in 2006-07 (112) and 2009-10 (111) were there more spot-kicks in a single campaign.
30' Ajeyi tries to get his head on the end of a long throw but Martinez comes to claim that one and launches the ball towards Traore on the counter.
27' BIG CHANCE! Yokuslu gets on the end of a Pereira free kick but his header drifts just wide of the far post with Martinez rooted to the spot! That was so close for the away side!
25' The equaliser doesn't seem to have knocked Villa's confidence in attack at all. They've restarted the game with high intensity pressing and quick passing again. Yokuslu does brilliantly to intercept a dangerous pass by Barkley on the edge of the West Brom penalty box.
Matheus Pereira
Penalty Goal
West Bromwich Albion
23' GOALLL! PEREIRA MAKES IT 1-1! West Brom's top goalscorer this season makes no mistake and fires the ball into the roof of the net, and fires his side back into this game which they desperately needed! A goal a piece. A penalty a piece. West Brom are back level.
22' PENALTY TO WEST BROM! Maitland-Niles is clipped on his shin by Konsa and the Arsenal loanee goes does easily but there was contact. Pereira is the man to take the penalty.
20' Villa's midfield is dominating the ball and winning every duel in the middle of the pitch. Watkins has been quiet so far but there's been plenty of chances created so far by the home side.
17' Diagne challenges for the ball in the air against Mings but the defender wins this time and knocks the ball back to Martinez as Villa reclaim possession.
14' West Brom are beginning to play the ball around with more confidence since going behind but they continue to give the ball away in silly areas. This time it's Gallagher who gives the ball away to Barkley and Villa waste the counter.
11' Martinez comes off his line to collect the ball in the air and does so brilliantly. What a signing he's been for Villa. He's looking to match the record for clean sheets by an Aston Villa goalkeeper in a Premier League season. Brad Friedel holds the record with 15, whilst Martinez is currently on 14 this season.
A. El Ghazi
Penalty Goal
Aston Villa
9' GOALLLL! EL GHAZI OPENS THE SCORING! The Dutchman steps to take the penalty and drills it hard and low into the corner giving Johnstone no chance. Villa have an early 1-0 lead after a really silly mistake from Ajeyi. Allardyce won't be happy with how his team have started this one.
8' PENALTY! The referee points to the spot after Barkley goes down in the box after Ajeyi dives in and makes contact with the Englishman. It looked soft, but it will be a penalty nonetheless.
7' Watkins leads the counter-attack for the home side but his cross is too high for Barkley and the chance to open the scoring is wasted poorly.
5' It looks as though Robinson is playing down the left when defending the ball and then moves into striker, joining Diagne, with Maitland-Niles moving out wide when the visitor's attack.
3' Targett gets down the left and drills a ball into the box but Johnstone is there to collect.
2' Good to see Wesley on the bench for Villa today after recovering from his ACL injury suffered last season.
