Al Thumama Stadium was the latest Qatar 2022 venue to be&nbsp;launched, on Friday night&nbsp;prior to the Amir Cup final. This was the sixth of the eight venues that became ready to host matches of the 22nd edition of the&nbsp;FIFA World Cup which is slated to kick off on November 21, 2022.&nbsp;
The stadium will host matches till the quarterfinal stage&nbsp;of the competition. Its architecture is an amalgamation of Arab cultural heritage. This stadium can host 40,000 fans. Let us now take a look at some of the interesting facts about the arena.&nbsp;

The stadium has been designed in such a way that it closely resembles the 'gahfiya', a traditional woven cap worn by the locals. In fact, this is a traditional outfit&nbsp;across the Arab world but assumes&nbsp;different styles, colours and names in the respective countries and cultures. Hence it is a fundamental part of the fashion statement of the Arab world.&nbsp;It is also a symbol of dignity and independence.
The name of the stadium has&nbsp;been drawn from the Al Thumama tree that is commonly found in the region. So the stadium upholds the local flavour in its truest sense.&nbsp;

An embodiment of Arab culture and heritage

After the World Cup gets over, 20,000 seats will be given away as donation&nbsp;to various developmental projects across the world.&nbsp;This will be done as the seating capacity of the stadium will be reduced by half and the seats will find their way to various developing countries to boost their infrastructure.&nbsp;
It is expected that after the marquee event, the local, regional and international sporting fixtures being hosted here will attract smaller crowds than World Cup&nbsp;games. So reducing the capacity will ensure that the arena attracts a full house and keeps its energetic atmosphere.

A mini-stadium was built on the site and it was cooled through solar power, which&nbsp;convinced FIFA&nbsp; that conditions in Qatar are optimum for football. This will ensure that the venue can be used throughout the year, even during summer.

The Al Thumama Stadium is futuristic and inclusive in every sense. Apart from football, it will become a hub for multiple sports.&nbsp;Tracks for running and cycling will be built along the periphery of the stadium. Moreover,&nbsp;handball, volleyball, and basketball courts will grace the complex which will ensure that the arena becomes the ultimate sporting destination in Qatar.

The stadium has been targeting a Global Sustainability Assessment System 4-star certification for both design and construction. To achieve this, the existing energy centre on site will be refurbished and upgraded to meet the latest energy efficiency standards.
More importantly, the focus has been on minimising waste and the green design ensures 40 per cent&nbsp;more freshwater is saved when compared to a conventional stadium. Recycled water is used to irrigate green areas. The precinct will feature 50,000m² of park area with native vegetation and almost 400 trees covering 84 per cent&nbsp;of the landscape.

It is just 12 km away from Doha and is pretty close to&nbsp;Hamad International Airport, which is considered to be the southern gateway to the Qatari capital. Moreover, it will have extensive transport links, making it easy for fans to reach&nbsp;here.
