Tim Cahill split
It was hard to pick only five...

107 appearances and 50 goals later, Tim Cahill will pull on a Socceroos shirt for one final time on Tuesday in a testimonial match against Lebanon in Sydney.

Set to come on late in the game, it's a moment the 38 year old has more than earned having produced time and again for his nation when it matters most.

From a historic World Cup strike to an unforgettable double against Syria, Cahill has shone in green and gold for over a decade.

Here are five of his best Socceroos moments...

  • Tim Cahill Australia v Japan World Cup 12062006

    A historic Socceroos strike

"It's a landmark moment for Australian football - Tim Cahill has scored the nation's first ever World Cup goal!"

Those were the words of Simon Hill as an opportunistic Cahill pounced in the 84th minute against Japan to write his name forever in Australia's football history.

A crucial and historic equaliser, Cahill wasn't done there either as he tucked home a superb second five minutes later to hand the Socceroos their first World Cup win.

Two history-defining moments for the Socceroos and one man at the heart of them both.

  • Tim Cahill Australia v Ecuador friendly 140306

    Becomes Australia's all-time leading goalscorer

Having first made his name with Millwall at The Den, it was only fitting Cahill returned there to become the Socceroos most prolific scorer.

A first-half double against Ecuador in 2014 saw Cahill surpass Damian Mori for goals in a green and gold shirt and he's never looked back.

Currently on an even 50 goals, you'd be brave to bet against him not adding one more against Lebanon.

  • Tim Cahill Netherlands

    A stunning Socceroos screamer

Australia have just fallen behind to the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup, fans heads have dropped but Cahill takes just a minute to get them jumping for joy.

An exquisite first-time volley on his left foot in the 21st minute arguably the goal of the tournament and one that gave the Socceroos a sniff of an upset.

Though they would go on to take the lead, Australia would lose the match 3-2 - a result made all the more bearable considering the calibre of Cahill's unforgettable volley.

  • Tim Cahill Australia 2-0 China Asian Cup

Takes the bicycle for a spin

He's no stranger to a thumping header, but Cahill reminded fans he's capable of a whole lot more in the 2015 Asian Cup quarter-finals against China.

After a goalless first-half, the Socceroos striker went for the spectacular and delivered with a bicycle kick Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be proud of.

He'd add another goal too as Australia wrapped up a 2-0 win on their way to Asian Cup glory.

  • Tim Cahill Australia Syria WCQ 10102017

    Steps up against Syria

Despite a lack of club minutes, Cahill once again proved the doubters wrong in October 2017 as he produced a decisive double against Syria in a World Cup qualifier.

With the Socceroos falling behind early in the second-leg, it would be Cahill who nodded Australia level before popping up in the dying minutes of extra time to seal a dramatic victory.

Leading the side in Jedinak's absence, Cahill would last the full 120 minutes as he played another big part in the Socceroos progressing to a fourth straight World Cup.
