'I'm so, so happy' - Kieran McKenna explains why he snubbed Man Utd and Chelsea to extend stay at Ipswich after Premier League promotion

The 38-year-old signed a long-term extension that keeps him at the club to 2028, meaning he will stay on as the club kick off their first Premier League campaign in 22 years, having earned promotion from the Championship this season.

McKenna's work at the Tractor Boys attracted interest from Manchester United, who could sack manager Erik ten Hag this summer despite winning the FA Cup, and Chelsea, who recently parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino.

McKenna admits he knew of the growing interest in his services, but was proud to commit to a new deal at Portman Road instead, saying: "I'm aware of it. It's part and parcel of success, there's been interest from other clubs and it's a short career as a manager. It's right to consider things but I'm so, so happy with the decision I've made. I am extremely proud to have signed a new contract with the club. We have enjoyed incredible success together over the last two seasons and I'm excited to have the opportunity and responsibility of leading this fantastic club into its first season in the Premier League in 22 years."

After securing their place in the Premier League with a runners-up finish in the Championship, McKenna and Ipswich will soon begin preparing for their long-awaited return to the top-flight. However, the coach and his players will first take a break over the summer after such an intense campaign.
