Kaizer Chiefs legend Collins Mbesuma has made a bold claim about the current Premier Soccer League strikers.&nbsp;The Zambian football legend enjoyed a glittering career, winning the local league title with Chiefs and cups with Mamelodi Sundowns and Moroka Swallows.&nbsp; The former Orlando Pirates striker has insisted that forwards in the PSL are not diligent in their work.

WHAT HAPPENED?

"What I have noticed is that the PSL strikers are not putting in a lot of work. I have seen it even during my playing days," he told <a href=" https://youtu.be/ike5MwTjk8Y?si=ZAvigtwrBt_yNifp" target="_blank">IZinja zeGame</a>.&nbsp;"During my time at Pirates, I used to stay behind with 30 or 40 balls, Senzo Meyiwa was going to attest to this if he was still alive. I used to ask him to stay behind so we could do extra work.&nbsp;"Every day after training I used to kick those balls even if there was no goalkeeper. So these days how many shots do they take after training? maybe one, maybe none after training," he added."Imagine the whole week in training a striker does not score a goal, but you expect him to score on the weekend during the game? There is no confidence already in that person. So they must stay behind and hit the ball daily to improve."

WHAT WAS SAID

Mbesuma joined Chiefs in 2004 from Zambian club Roan United and he went on to be named the PSL Player of the Season in the 2004/25 campaign after scoring 35 goals across all competitions.&nbsp; In his maiden season in SA football, the former Zambia international scored 25 goals in the league, breaking the previous goal-scoring record held by former Bush Bucks star Wilfred Mugeyi.&nbsp;Ntofontofo is one of the few players who scored over 100 goals in the PSL era having scored 103 goals.Last season, Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa emerged as the league's top goal scorer with 16 goals, while Stellenbosch's Iqraam Rayners and SuperSport United's Brandly Grobler netted 15 and 12 goals respectively.&nbsp;

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mbesuma's record is still yet to be broken and it remains to be seen if it will be broken in the 2024/25 campaign.&nbsp; The new season started with the MTN8 games taking place this past weekend. The league matches are set to begin in mid-September.&nbsp;
