All 16 local top flight clubs were busy reinforcing their squads during the recent registration period

The Premier Soccer League's winter transfer window closed on Thursday at midnight with Orlando Pirates making three deadline day signings.

The Buccaneers signed Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, Sipho Chaine and Kermit Erasmus whose deal was hailed by some as the best piece of business in the transfer window.

GOAL selected the top 10 deals in the local winter transfer window.

  • Gavin Hunt and Thulani Hlatshwayo, SuperSport

    #1 Thulani Hlatshwayo

The veteran defender was snapped up by SuperSport United after he was released by Orlando Pirates at the end of last season.
Hlatshwayo has reunited with Gavin Hunt who brought out the best in the former Bafana Bafana captain at Bidvest Wits and he is slowly regaining his old form having produced some solid performances.

  • Abdelmounaim Boutouil, Mamelosi Sundowns, September 2022

    #2 Abdelmounaim Boutouil

The Moroccan star is highly regarded in his home country and he is viewed as a direct replacement for Ricardo Nascimento at Mamelodi Sundowns after joining the club from Morocco's Chabab Mohammedia.

A talented ball-playing left-footed centre back, Boutouil has the tools to make it in the PSL and he might be exactly what Masandawana need to win their second Caf Champions League title.

  • Nkosinathi Sibisi, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    #3 Nkosinathi Sibisi

The former Lamontvillde Golden Arrows captain had big shoes to fill when he joined Orlando Pirates with the Soweto giants having parted ways with Happy Jele.
Sibisi has produced several Man of the Match performances and he has brought some much-needed defensive stability and leadership as the Buccaneers look to end their 11-year PSL trophy drought.

  • Kaizer Motaung Jr & Yusuf Maart, Kaizer Chiefs, June 2022

    #4 Yusuf Maart

The energetic box-to-box midfielder has walked straight into the Kaizer Chiefs starting line-up after joining the Soweto giants from Sekhukhune United.
Maart, who was one of the standout midfielders in the PSL last term, could be key to the Glamour Boys' hopes of challenging for major trophies this season.

  • Frank Gabadinho Mhango, AmaZulu FC, August 2022

    #5 Frank Mhango

AmaZulu pulled off a major coup when they signed the Malawi international from Orlando Pirates and he has hit the ground running at the KwaZulu-Natal giants.
Having netted three goals from six league starts for Usuthu, Mhango has been showing glimpses of the form he displayed in the 2019-20 season when he ended up scooping the PSL Golden Boot award.

  • Marcelo Allende, Mamelodi Sundowns, September 2022

    #6 Marcelo Allende

The Chile international arrived in South Africa after Mamelodi Sundowns agreed to pay a record-breaking PSL transfer fee as they reportedly spent R51 million when they purchased him from Montevideo City Torque of Uruguay.
Allende has shown what he is capable of - scoring match-winning goals and creating clear-cut chances for his teammates. The 23-year-old attacker has netted three goals from six competitive games for Masandawana.

  • Abel Mabaso, Richards Bay, September 2022

    #7 Abel Mabaso

Richards Bay have been the surprise package of the season thus far largely because of the experienced defender-come-midfielder who joined the PSL newcomers from Orlando Pirates.
Mabaso has produced some consistent performances for the Natal Rich Boys which have earned him a Bafana Bafana call-up.

Richards Bay have the best defensive record in the PSL thanks to Mabaso's defensive solidity.

  • Zitha Kwinika, Kaizer Chiefs, July 2022

    #8 Zitha Kwinika

Following the departures of Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Daniel Cardoso at Kaizer Chiefs, the Glamour Boys re-signed their academy product, Kwinika from Stellenbosch FC.
The 28-year-old has quickly become Amakhosi's first choice centre back and there are calls for him to be included in the Bafana Bafana squad due to his consistent performances for the four-time PSL champions.

  • Kermit Erasmus - Orlando Pirates

    #9 Kermit Erasmus

The experienced striker is undoubtedly Orlando Pirates' marquee signing from the recent current transfer window after returning to the club following his contract termination at Mamelodi Sundowns.
Erasmus was a reliable goalscorer during his first stint with the Buccaneers between 2013 and 2016. With Bucs strikers having underperformed this term, Erasmus is expected to walk straight into the team and deliver.

  • Abubeker Nasir, Mamelodi Sundowns,August 2022

    #10 Abubeker Nasir

Eyebrows were raised when Mamelodi Sundowns released Pavol Safranko who impressed last season. The Slovakian striker's departure created space for Nasir in the Tshwane giants' foreign quota as the Ethiopia international joined Masandawana from Ethiopian side Coffee SC.
It has taken little time for Nasir, who is highly rated in his home country, Ethiopia, to show his lethal finishing ability having scored three goals from four competitive matches and he is blessed with mesmerizing dribbling skills that cut open any opposing defence.
