Chelsea player ratings vs Burnley: Cole Palmer must be fed up of this garbage! England winger's magical display counts for little as Djordje Petrovic howler costs Blues

Cole Palmer's heroics could not save Chelsea from an embarrassing slip up against 10-man Burnley as the Blues were held to a 2-2 draw. The England international was a danger throughout the game and took his goal tally up to 13 in the league, chipping in a penalty before tucking away a second late on in the game. However, his co-stars let him down as the relegation-threatened Clarets refused to give up and pulled level on two occasions to earn a vital point.

After a slow start, Chelsea eventually managed to take control of the game and thought they had taken the lead after 20 minutes when Axel Disasi headed in from a Mykhailo Mudryk cross. A lengthy VAR check ruled it out, though, deeming the ball to have hit his arm before going in.

Chelsea kept up the pressure and had many attempts but came up against a strong Arijanet Muric in the Burnley goal. The breakthrough finally came just five minutes before half-time, however, when Mudryk went down in the box and Lorenz Assignon was sent off for his second booking in two minutes, while manager Vincent Kompany also saw red before Cole Palmer chipped the spot kick into the net.

Despite the upset right before the break, Burnley emerged from half-time raring to go and found the equaliser through a fantastic Josh Cullen strike from the edge of the box. Mauricio Pochettino's team had the vast majority of possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances as Burnley held tight and Muric pulled off some excellent saves. The home team finally put an end to their frustration, though, and, surprise, surprise, it was Palmer who kept cool when he got onto a flick from Raheem Sterling and slotted it into the net.

Amazingly, though, Dara O'Shea popped up with another equaliser, heading through the hands of Petrovic. And the visitors then almost found what would've been an unbelievable winning goal, hitting the crossbar before sending the follow-up wide.

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    Djordje Petrovic (5/10):

Pulled off some good saves to deny Burnley and could do nothing about the first equaliser. The second goal, though, was a real howler and he should've comfortably dealt with it. Nightmare.

    Malo Gusto (7/10):

Had some weak defensive moments early on but grew into the game with strong tackling and good movement up the right-hand side.

    Axel Disasi (6/10):

Was sound in the air and on the ball. Saw his celebrations for a goal cut short by VAR.

    Benoit Badiashile (5/10):

Let Foster slip away from him for a great chance to put Burnley ahead, it summed up a pretty disappointing afternoon for the Frenchman.

    Marc Cucurella (5/10):

Did not look good on the left as he failed to connect with Mudryk and offered nothing.

    Midfield

    Moises Caicedo (6/10):

Sound on the ball but didn't offer enough protection to the back line.

    Enzo Fernandez (7/10):

Excellent passes to bring Chelsea's attacks forward. Another solid display from the Argentine.

    Conor Gallagher (6/10):

His passes were good and he created a big chance for Mudryk in the second half.

    Attack

    Cole Palmer (9/10):

Chelsea's most threatening player from the beginning and showed how confident he is with a cheeky Panenka penalty. Restored their lead and almost set up the winner with a beautiful ball to Sterling.

    Nicolas Jackson (6/10):

Made some good runs to help open up the Burnley defence but missed a few chances.

    Mykhailo Mudryk (8/10):

Some dangerous moments with good crosses, shots and linked up well with others. Earned the penalty, albeit a little fortuitously, and put one on a plate for Jackson in the second half, only for the forward to squander the chance.

    Subs & Manager

    Noni Madueke (6/10):

Got a decent shot off shortly after coming on.

    Raheem Sterling (6/10):

Set up what was supposed to be the winner but should have headed in for 3-2 after Palmer's amazing pass.

    Alfie Gilchrist (N/A):

On for the last five minutes after Gusto went off injured.

    Mauricio Pochettino (5/10):

His team grew into the game and dominated possession but really should have come away with three points against struggling, 10-man opponents. A bad day at the office.
