  • Liverpool announce loan signing of Kerr
  • Scotland midfielder joins from Bayern Munich
  • Struggled for minutes alongside stars like England's Stanway
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

After an impressive two-year stint at Rangers, Kerr joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 but has struggled to make her mark in Germany thus far. Competing for minutes in midfield with the likes of Lionesses star Georgia Stanway, Austria stand-out Sarah Zadrazil and Germany's Linda Dallmann, as well as exciting teenage sensation Alara Sehitler, Kerr has started just two league games this season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 25-year-old will get the chance to increase that game time at Liverpool though. Matt Beard's team were in need of some January recruitment, after injuries hampered the Reds heavily in the first half of the Women's Super League season, and Kerr will add plenty of quality and experience to a side that has collected just nine points from their first 10 games.

  • WHAT KERR SAID

“I’m really excited for my time here,” Kerr said, upon the announcement of the deal. "I spoke to Matt and obviously the club before I came, and I love their ambitions and am really excited to get started. I feel like my career in the last few years has really changed a lot. Obviously moving to Germany was a challenge in itself, being in that intense environment with world class players has been really good for my development. With the national team, I’ve grown into the role which has been really good and I’m hoping to bring my experience and the things I’ve learned over the last couple of years to Liverpool in this loan move."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Liverpool tried to sign Kerr before she went to Bayern, with Beard going as far as to say that they "nearly had a deal done". Unsurprisingly, then, he is delighted to have brought her to the club this time around, even if it is only for a short loan. "We’re probably getting a more complete player now, a little bit older with experience of playing for one of the biggest European women’s football teams," the Reds boss said.

"Hopefully we’ll use her international experience to help bolster the squad and she can play in the holding role as well as in the ‘8’ so it gives us a little bit of flexibility. She’s great on the ball and is aggressive, which is just what we needed I think."

WHAT NEXT FOR KERR AND LIVERPOOL?

Kerr, who will wear the No.24 shirt on Merseyside, could make her club debut on Sunday when Liverpool travel to London to face West Ham in the FA Women's Cup fourth round. Her first taste of WSL action will come on January 17, as the Reds host high-flying Brighton.
