In a shattering blow for the country, Morocco have in their bid to host the Fifa World Cup for the fifth time after losing to America.
The United States, Canada and Mexico bid scored a total of 134 votes, while the African country gathered 65.
The North American bid had been considered favourites throughout the bidding process, despite Morocco receiving the boost of US-governed territories Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and US Virgin Islands.
Reacting to the outcome of the votes held at the 68th Fifa Congress in Moscow, veteran Fifa instructor, Adegboye Onigbinde claims Morocco is at a miss not getting a chance to the world.
“The big deal is in the fact that you lose revenue. There are some countries in the world that depend entirely on tourism,” Onigbinde told Goal.
“When you host the World Cup, you see a lot of people who bring a lot of money into your country, and if you’re not hosting, you’ll lose all that.
“The political angle is also there. When you host this competition, the whole world concentrates on that country and with a lot of things.
“The most important thing is the facilities Africa have. Do we have the facilities to host 32 countries? In this case, we have eight groups, which means you must have eight standard stadia to host these groups.
“Can we boast of that in Africa? We may have facilities but what is the standard? So, that is the most important thing.”
