‘What a career you’ve had!’ – Mikel, Ola Aina react to John Terry’s retirement

After making over 800 career appearances, the 37-year-old defender has decided to stop playing football

Tianjin Teda midfielder John Obi Mikel and Torino defender Ola Aina have reacted to John Terry’s decision to retire from active football.

The England captain who enjoyed an illustrious career at Chelsea - a club he joined at the age of 14 - announced his retirement on Sunday.

During his stay in London, Terry guided the Blues to five Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups and their first and only triumph in the Uefa Champions League and a Europa League title.

Despite leaving Chelsea at end of the 2016-17 season for a one-year stint with Aston Villa, Terry is still regarded as the most successful captain and highest scoring defender in the Premier League club history.

And the Nigeria duo who once played with him in the Blues’ fold have appreciated him for the everything learnt.

“Oi Georgie mate what a career you’ve had! It has been an honour to work, win and share good old banter with you,” Mikel posted on Instagram.

“You are a true captain and a great leader, I’m grateful to have been able to learn from you. Enjoy your retirement old boy and good luck in all your future endeavours.”

“Man like JT. What a career you have had, thanks for everything and good luck in the future,” Aina wrote.
