Maybe C.J. Sapong should make parody videos every week.

The Philadelphia Union striker made some news this week as he starred in a “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” spoof for the team’s throwback night. He made more news Saturday as he led the Union to their first victory of the MLS season.

Sapong scored all three goals, including one from the penalty spot, in Philadelphia’s 3-0 win over the New York Red Bulls, as the Union became the last MLS team to win a game in 2017.

Not only was it the Union’s first win of the 2017 season, it was the team’s first victory since Aug. 27, 2016 – a stretch of 16 games.

The Union made the breakthrough in the 74th minute, taking advantage of a misplay by Red Bulls defender Aaron Long. Sapong was able to hit a shot that then deflected off Long, to open the scoring.

Seven minutes later, Sapong doubled the Union lead on a header after Chris Pontius flicked a ball back across the face of goal with his head. Moments earlier, goalkeeper Andre Blake had kept the Union in front with a point -blank stop on Bradley Wright-Phillips.

The game was put to bed as Red Bulls defender Damien Perrinelle was whistled for a handball in the area in the 84th minute. Sapong took the spot kick and buried it, completing his hat trick to the delight of the home fans.
