This week's round of 16 first-legs brought four outstanding individual performances, but which was the best?

Raheem Sterling’s dramatic, last-minute winner for Manchester City has earned him a nomination for the Santander UEFA Champions League Player of the Week.

The England international collected a fabulous long-range pass from goalkeeper Ederson before slotting home to earn Pep Guardiola’s side a 3-2 win over Schalke in their Last 16, first leg clash in Germany.

But the flying winger faces stiff opposition after a number of solid performances this week – and few were built of sterner stuff than Jason Denayer’s sensational defensive performance against Barcelona.

The Lyon man made 6 clearances, 4 interceptions and 3 blocks as the French side held Messi and co. to a goalless draw at OL Stadium.

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin has made an outstanding career out of heroic defensive performances but the Uruguayan earns a nod this week after striking at the opposite end – pouncing to earn Diego Simeone’s side a 2-0 over Juventus in the Spanish capital.

Rounding off the nominations of Bayern Munich’s Thiago, who gave a midfield masterclass at Anfield as the German giants returned home with a goalless draw in their first leg.
