Thika United has been relegated from the Kenyan Premier League after falling by a solitary goal against Nzoia Sugar on Sunday.
The milkmen came into the game hanging on a dangerous ground after a win for Vihiga United against Posta Rangers coupled with a draw for Chemelil Sugar. The visitors, who are on 23 points, needed maximum points to keep their survival hopes alive.
Nzoia had other ideas though and managed to squeeze in a win in the 35th minute courtesy of Festus Okiring who fired in from a penalty spot after the milk men had handled the ball in the danger zone.
Other relegation candidates, Wazito FC, managed to grab a point in a 3-3 draw against Zoo Kericho. Simon Mburu, Anthony Njeru and John Mutua were on target for the Frank Ouna led side, with Michael madoya, who scored a brace, and Nicholas Kipkirui scoring for the teal leaves farmers.
In another league encounter, Tusker FC needed a late goal to ensure they get a point against determined Mathare United. Cliff Nyakeya scored for the slum boys in the 29th minute, but the lead lasted until the 41st minute when Timothy Otieno leveled.
The latter was on the score sheet aagin in the 60th minute and when it looked like they will win it, Sydney Ochieng struck with eight minutes to go.
