One for the A-League ages.

It took 120 breathless minutes but Melbourne Victory have ended their Big Blue drought and sealed a spot in the A-League decider by seeing off Sydney FC 3-2 in an epic contest at Allianz Stadium.

After an even first 20 minutes, a lively Kosta Barbarouses struck the post from a tight angle and that seemed to spark the Sky Blues into life as a free-kick just minutes later was diverted into the Victory goal by an unlucky Stefan Nigro.

Having inadvertently kicked Sydney into gear, Barbarouses would level matters in the 31st minute with the winger allowed time to unleash a shot in the box and benefiting from a huge deflection that left Andrew Redmayne stranded.

Victory emerged from the break with a real spring in their step and found themselves ahead in the 47th minute with Besart Berisha doing brilliantly to pick out James Troisi in the box, who slotted home a simple finish to silence the home fans.

With back-to-back championships slipping from their grips, Sydney FC brought on old heads Matt Simon and David Carney with Bobo forcing a stunning save from Lawrence Thomas in the 77th minute.

The Sky Blues twice went close to an equaliser in injury time before with 15 seconds of injury time to play Terry Antonis cleared the ball into his own net to force extra time in dramatic fashion.

After a sluggish first period, Antonis would put Victory back in front with a splendid solo goal in the 117th minute as he redeemed himself and earned his side an unforgettable win.

Victory will now play Newcastle Jets next Saturday in the A-League decider while Graham Arnold bows out as Sydney FC coach with a loss.
