Sofiane Boufal scores first goal for Celta Vigo

The Moroccan international was on target in his team’s loss away at Estadi Montilivi on Monday evening

Sofiane Boufal scored his first LaLiga goal for Celta Vigo in their 3-2 loss to Girona at Estadi Montilivi on Monday.

The 25-year-old who joined the Sky Blues from Southampton last season replaced Junior Alonso and justified his inclusion with a goal.

Cristhian Stuani handed the hosts the lead in the 22nd minute but Iago Aspas levelled scores 12 minutes later with Pedro Alcala firing Girona ahead in the 37th minute.

Stuani completed his brace in the 56th minute by scoring the third goal for his side, while Boufal netted Celta Vigo’s second goal of the encounter in the 87th minute.

The visitors’ aspiration of getting an equaliser suffered a big blow after referee Javier Rojas sent off Gustavo Cabral for a second caution.

Despite the defeat, Celta Vigo remain third in the log with seven points from four games. They host Real Valladolid in their next game on September 2018.
