Sofiane Boufal left out of Southampton’s pre-season tour of China

Sofiane Boufal’s future at Southampton is in doubt following his omission from the club’s pre-season tour in China.

The Premier League outfit released a 30-man list for their training camp in the Far East with the former club-record signing and Guido Carrillo missing from the squad.

Boufal was involved in a dressing bust-up with manager Mark Hughes after refusing to warm up in the Saints’ 3-2 loss to Chelsea on April 14.

Subsequently, the 24-year-old was forced to practice with the youth team and did not feature in any of their remaining games during the 2017-18 campaign.

Meanwhile, the Welsh gaffer clearly does not have the winger in his plans as he sets his sights on games against Schalke 04 and Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning in the coming weeks.

"We're looking forward to it. The point is obviously to get the majority of the guys back and a few new faces as well, so that's always good to be together as a group for a certain length of time. It just helps the new guys to integrate,” Hughes told club website.

"They're good quality games out there, that's the important thing. You need games that will stretch you and test you as a group, and as an individual.

"I think the players have got to adapt, they've got to have that capacity to be able to do that, and we're looking forward to it.

"It's a country I've never been to, so there will be opportunities hopefully to see a little bit of it, and that will help with team bonding as well."

The Moroccan's future at Mary’s Stadium is uncertain despite winning the English Premier League Goal of the Season for the 2017-18 campaign and French Ligue 1 clubs including Rennes and Marseille are reportedly targeting a swoop.
