Riyad Mahrez could miss Algeria’s friendly game with Tanzania at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker on Thursday evening.
The winger was believed to have suffered the injury in Leicester City’s 2-1 loss to Chelsea in an FA Cup quarterfinal tie.
The Desert Warriors manager Rabah Madjer confirmed that the former Le Havre player is being monitored alongside Yacine Brahimi.
“I sent Yacine Brahimi and Mahrez to the infirmary,” Madjer was quoted by Algerian publication Competition.
“We’re monitoring them closely. They have a few niggles.”
Besides the warmup game with Salum Mayanga’s men, they will also take on Iran on Tuesday as part of their preparation for the World Cup in the summer and the 27-year-old will be expected to play a part in the encounter.
Mahrez has scored eight goals in 23 appearances for Algeria since he made his debut in 2014 against Armenia.
