REVEALED: Why Ivorian striker Ephrem Guikan rescinded decision to quit Gor Mahia

The poor relationship between Ephrem Guikan and former coach Dylan Kerr almost saw the Ivorian leave Gor Mahia halfway through his current contract.

Guikan penned a two year deal with K’Ogalo in December 2017 from Mauritius’ topflight side AS Port Louis 2000, but the striker never impressed Kerr, who used him sparingly last campaign.

Goal.com understands that Guikan had tabled a request to leave, but rescinded the decision after learning of the exit of Kerr, who has since joined South African SPL side Black Leopards.

“Guikan wanted to leave for Morocco because he had a bad relationship with coach Kerr, but he decided to come back after he (Kerr) left,” Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier told Goal.

K’Ogalo are set to kick off the 2018/19 campaign with a continental assignment against Nyasa Big Bullets on Wednesday before flying out for the return leg set for December 5.

After that, the Kenyan champions will take on Kariobangi Sharks in the Super Cup before traveling to Mombasa for the KPL season opener against Bandari on December 8.
