Red Star Belgrade’s Ben Mohamed hits brace as Comoros hold Morocco

Red Star Belgrade’s attacker El-Fardou Ben Mohamed got a brace to help Comoros to a 2-2 draw with Morocco in Tuesday’s Group B African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

After suffering a 1-0 defeat on Saturday in the first leg of their meeting, Amir Abdou’s men avoided a second consecutive defeat with the forward playing a pivotal role in the encounter.

Ben Mohamed opened the scoring in the ninth minute for the home team before Khalid Boutaib drew the visitors levelled in the 54th minute.

Nordin Amrabat then gave the north Africans the lead in the 62nnd minute before the forward saved the day for the southern African side with a late effort.

The stalemate has helped Comoros keep their qualification hope alive with two points from four games while Morocco are second in the group with seven points behind Cameroon.

The forward now has eight goals in 16 appearances for his country since making his debut against Burkina Faso in March 2014.
