Super Eagles
The Super Eagles face the White and Reds for the first time ever as they intensify preparations for the 2018 Fifa World Cup

Nigeria continue their World Cup build-up with a clash versus Poland at the Municipal Stadium, Wroclaw.

This encounter against the Europeans will give Gernot Rohr the chance to evaluate his side, as there are still plenty of problems to be fixed – especially in the goalkeeping department before they begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia.

Adam Nawalka led Poland to their first Fifa World Cup since 2006 and his priority would be to lead the White and Reds to an impressive outing in Russia.

The final result counts for nothing but the Super Eagles are keen to hit winning form ahead of their next friendly against Serbia in London on Tuesday, while Nawalka’s men welcome South Korea to the Silesian Stadium.

Gabriel Okechukwu and Stephen Eze have been handed maiden call-ups to the Super Eagles fold, with Brian Idowu targeting his second international cap.

Torino midfielder Joel Obi has been recalled after four years in the international wilderness, while goalkeeper Francis Uzoho would bargain for a starting line-up ahead of Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi.

Captain John Obi Mikel did not make the trip to Wroclaw owing to work permit issue, Oghenekaro Etebo is missing through injury and Junior Ajayi will not make his much-awaited Super Eagles debut following his inability to secure a visa into Poland.

Although there are no concerns over Elderson Echiejile and Ahmed Musa’s form, they are likely to start from the bench against Adam Nawałka’s men.

Potential Nigeria XI: Uzoho, Shehu, Ekong, Balogun, Aina, Obi, Ndidi, Onazi, Iheanacho, Moses, Ighalo

Position Poland players
Goalkeepers Białkowski, Fabiański, Skorupski, Szczęsny

Poland are expected to parade their best legs for the encounter against the Super Eagles.

Having missed his country’s games against Mexico and Uruguay, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski is expected to lead the Polish attacking line.

Between the sticks, Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny provides a dependable last line of defence, with Kamil Glik, Bartosz Bereszynski and Grzegorz Krychowiak expected to start against the three-time African champions.

Potential Poland XI: Szczesny,  Bereszynski, Glik, Piszczek, Cionek, Krychowiak, Rybus , Zielinki, Milik, Lewandowski

Nigeria take on Poland for the first time ever at the Municipal Stadium in Wrocław.

Both teams will be participating in the 2018 Fifa World Cup, and this encounter will help them assess their readiness for the global football showpiece billed for Russia.

Gernot Rohr’s Super Eagles are unbeaten in their last five games and they would be hoping to uphold their unbeaten record against the hosts who are ranked sixth in the world.

The biggest problem facing Rohr is finding a permanent first choice goalkeeper. If he can find a spark from either Francis Uzoho, Ikechukwu Ezenwa or Daniel Akpeyi, then there is no cause for negativity heading to Russia.

Coach Adam Nawałka is aware of the likely threat the Africans could pose after they subdued Argentina 4-2 in their last international game.

He will be relying on Robert Lewandowski to cage the Super Eagles who will be without their inspirational captain, John Obi Mikel.

Although the game is of little or no importance, this encounter will give the Polish team an idea of what to expect from Senegal, a team they will be facing in Group H when the World Cup gets underway.

“At this stage of preparation, everything is thought out and help us implement tactical assumptions and practice setting against teams, which way of playing are similar to those we will face in a group,” Wojciech Szczesny told Polsat Sport.
