Mamelodi Sundowns may be the only undefeated side in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) but they are yet to hit the heights that saw them claim their eighth league title last season.
Sundowns currently find themselves seventh on the PSL table, having won just two games and drawn four thus far.
The Tshwane giants most recently played out to a goalless draw against Bloemfontein Celtic despite dominating large portions of the game. This is something which Sundowns have had to endure of late.
Nonetheless, next up for Sundowns is a difficult game against league leaders Bidvest Wits and Mosimane knows that his troops will need to rediscover their killer instinct, or as he put it, their ‘X-factor’ if they are to overcome their opponents.
“Possession [and] dominance does not win you games,” Mosimane told the media.

“You cannot be running 100 kilometres per hour, we don’t play like that. We need to see the ball moving from right to left, in between the spaces. What is needed is to release the pass when you are inside and coming in between the lines, release the pass for somebody to score,” he added.
Sundowns have been on a rebuilding mission ever since losing the likes of Percy Tau and Khama Billiat in the off season and this has perhaps contributed to Sundowns’ lack of firepower upfront.
The former African champions have scored a mere seven goals in six games which has seen the 54-year-old mentor also tinker with his attack in order to find his best combinations.
“If you don’t do that, then it looks nice, but there’s no X-factor. You can build it and show dominance, but as long as it does not have the X-factor, then it does not mean anything,” he expressed.
Nonetheless, Mosimane will hope to adequately prepare his troops as they host the Students at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane on Sunday afternoon.
