Denis Onyango - Goalkeeper for Mamelodi SundownsGallo

Onyango would be happy to sign new Mamelodi Sundowns deal

CAF Footballer of the Year and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper, Denis Onyango’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

The shot-stopper, who is part of the Uganda squad at the ongoing Afcon finals in Gabon, would reportedly jump at the chance to extend his stay at Chloorkop.

“If there is a new contract I will sign it but if not, I would have to accept it.” Onyango told SunSport.

The Kampala-born keeper has been at the Pretoria-based outfit since 2011. He, however, found first team football hard to come, and resulted in a loan move to Bidvest Wits.

After being recalled by Sundowns in 2014, he deputised for Kennedy Mweene and Wayne Sandilands.

As of the 2015/2016 season, injuries forced Masandawana coach Pitso Mosimane to use Onyango.

The 31-year-old then repaid his manager's faith in him with superb performances winning the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and CAF African Champions League titles.

Onyango is now so highly respected within the football fraternity that he is currently ranked in the top ten goalkeepers in the world according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
