Nigeria's Wakili edges closer to Europa League action with Trakai

The Nigerian left-back was on song for the Knights as they recovered from a late scare to complete a turnaround against the Swedish side in Lithuania

Alma Wakili was on parade as FK Trakai emerged victorious in a dramatic Uefa Europa League second round qualifying encounter against Norrkoping after they recorded a 5-3 penalty win on Thursday evening.

Oleg Vasilenko's men were defeated 2-1 by the Comrades in the first leg of the tie and they won by the same scoreline in Lithuania, thus, needing penalties to decide the match.

Top goalscorer, Maksim Maksimov got the Knights ahead twice in the opening 35 minutes but a Simon Skrabb goal with four minutes to play denied the hosts an easy passage to the next stage of Europe's second-tier club competition qualifying series.

With the aggregate score 3-3 after extra time, they had to negotiate their progression from 12 yards out and the LFF Stadium secured victory with a 5-3 win.

Wakili, 20, was on parade for the entire 120 minutes alongside Liberian teenage sensation, Oscar Dorley. Ivorian striker, Lajo Traore was left on the bench.

They now face Macedonian outfit, Shkendija in the third round qualifying. They entertain them in Lithuania on July 27 before heading to the Ecolog Arena for the return fixture on August 2 to negotiate for a playoff berth.
