David Owino has been ruled out Harambee Stars Afcon qualifying match against Ghana.
The match came a little too soon for Owino who picked a recurring injury after colliding with his teammate Jesse Were on Wednesday’s training.
Owino was just coming from a one-month layoff after picking an injury in a Zambian Premier League match with Zesco United.
“Defender David Owino will sit out the match having suffered a thigh strain,” FKF confirmed Owino’s absence via a communiqué on the federation’s website.
Were is also doubtful after picking a knock, leaving coach Sébastien Migné with a depleted squad that will depend on Anthony Akumu, Francis Kahata and Michael Olunga to stop Ghana’s Black Stars.
Despite the setback, Migné has exuded confidence in his players saying that the squad can pull up a surprise.
“It is difficult playing against Ghana since they are a good team and ranked above us. I, however, have trust in my players’ abilities and I’m confident that we’ll get a positive result,” said coach Migné.
Ghana started her campaign on a high note, after defeating Ethiopia 5-0. A brace from Raphael Dwamena and goals apiece from Gyan, Ebenezer Ofori and Boye were enough to hand Walya Antelopes a lesson.
The Black Stars will be aiming at getting maximum points against their hosts Kenya, who went down 2-1 away to Sierra Leone in their opener.
