Messi & Aguero missing but Icardi returns to Argentina squad alongside Martinez

Lionel Messi has not been included in the latest Argentina squad, as he weighs up his international future, but Mauro Icardi is back under interim coach Lionel Scaloni.

The Albiceleste, who suffered a last-16 exit at World Cup 2018, are opening another new era following the departure of Jorge Sampaoli as coach.

It remains to be seen whether Barcelona superstar Messi will form part of those plans, with it expected that he will sit out fixtures for his country through to the end of the year.

He will not be figuring in upcoming clashes with Guatemala and Colombia, with those games set to be staged in the United States during early September.

While Messi will be missing as Scaloni takes the reins, Inter striker Icardi has been handed a recall.

The 25-year-old was famously snubbed by Sampaoli for World Cup duty despite ending the 2017-18 campaign as the joint-top scorer in Serie A.

He is now back in favour alongside exciting club colleague Lautaro Martinez – with the 20-year-old forward looking to add to the solitary senior cap he earned back in March.

Paulo Dybala is another star of Italian football to get the nod, with the Juventus frontman still searching for a first international goal after 13 appearances to date.

Elsewhere, Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero comes back in after missing Russia 2018 through injury.

Fiorentina star Giovanni Simeone – the son of Atletico boss Diego – is also included as the likes of Angel Di Maria and Sergio Aguero join Messi on the list of absentees.
