Maritzburg United decide against signing former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni

Maritzburg United have decided against signing former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni.

Sangweni started training with the Team of Choice over a week ago as he was hoping to return to the pitch following his departure from Chippa United.

While Eric Tinkler had good things to say about the midfielder just last week, the former Pirates mentor felt Sangweni wasn't the player to help the team avoid relegation.

Despite his vast experience in the top flight, Sangweni has struggled to rediscover his old form in recent months.

He made a mere eight appearances for the Chilli Boys in the first half of the current campaign before being released during the January transfer window.

He will now have to look elsewhere in an attempt to revive his fading career before the end of the end of the campaign.

But with just over 10 league games to go before the season closes, it remains to be seen if any of the 14 PSL teams, Maritzburg United and Chippa United excluded, will show interest in his services.

Meanwhile, the KwaZulu Natal-based outfit has parted ways with Belgian striker Andrea Fileccia.

Details of Fileccia's departure are still unknown as the club refused to go public as to why the former Free State Stars marksman is no longer with the club.

According to the club, at least three more players will be shown the exit door in the near future as they appear to be keen on keeping players who will put their bodies on the line for the club to stay in the PSL.

The Team of Choice are currently rooted at the bottom of the PSL standings with just 14 points from 20 league games.

They are two points behind 15th-placed Free State Stars, and a further four behind Baroka FC, who are placed 14th on the PSL table.
