Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane was relatively satisfied with his side’s performance after they walked away with three points against Polokwane City.
While it was by no means Sundowns' best performance, goals by Ricardo Nascimento and new signing Lebohang Maboe gave the Brazilians their first win of the new season.
“We were coming and going. We didn’t have a free flow as usual, but sometimes it’s okay to have the three points and not have the free flow,” Mosimane told SuperSport TV after the game.
“Hopefully on Saturday we can have a free flow match. What’s important is to win the match,” Mosimane added.
Meanwhile, Mosimane singled out the contributions of Tiyani Mabunda, Oupa Manyisa and man of the match Themba Zwane.
“We did well. The three-man midfield helped us tonight- ‘Mshishi’ (Zwane), Sugar (Mabunda) and ‘Ace’ Manyisa. Not so much of a nice game but we must also give credit to the guys, especially in the first half, in the last ten minutes, they were threatening. But we’re happy- three points,” a content Mosimane explained.
With Sundowns 2-0 up, it was apparent that they took their foot of the paddle, but the 54-year-old mentor revealed that it was more about game management.
“Game management was important. These kind of games, when you’re 2-0 you don’t have to look like you want to play, you just wait for your chance,” Mosimane said.
Although, Sundowns’ recent results may not have been the most convincing in terms of performances, Mosimane believes that his side are making progress.
“These games are good for us, last year, we got zero points (against Polokwane City), against Chiefs (last season) we lost our home game so it’s progress,” he concluded.
Sundowns’ focus now shifts onto the MTN8 Cup this weekend where they lock horns with Golden Arrows on Saturday.
The former African champions have not enjoyed success in the coveted top eight extravaganza, but will be hoping to turn their fortunes around this season.
