Christian Pyagbara targets NPFL title with Akwa United

Christian Pyagbara has expressed his desire to win the Nigeria Professional Football League title with Akwa United.

The striker's solitary effort saw the Promise Keepers defeat Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium - their first home defeat this season in front of their fans.

After grabbing the Uyo based outfit's winner in Kano, the Nigeria international attributed Abdul Maikaba's coaching tactics for his side's 1-0 victory against the former Nigerian champions.

"It is my job and much like a normal thing for me," Pyagbara told Goal.

"I'm happy helping my team beat Kano Pillars and we played well to deserve it. Scoring goals is my job and it is exciting always getting on the score sheet and ensuring my team wins.

"We worked towards the victory and fought together as a team and our coach's instructions helped us greatly in the game.

"We usually train around 4pm but because of the match he insisted we train about 1pm to acclimatize with the Kano weather which really helped us.

"My ambition with Akwa is to win the title this season. I'm working hard as a player to be on top of my game and as a team - we are doing our best to challenge for the top places.

"Coach Abdul Maikaba is doing a great job at Akwa United. At the beginning of the season, we struggled a bit with new players but now we are getting to understand ourselves.

"We are confident that our best will come out in the second round of the season. We will just hope to maintain our form and improve with every game."
