The former Reds goal machine has lauded the signing of the Egyptian speedster as Jurgen Klopp's side prepare for a busy season

Michael Owen has described the capture of Mohammed Salah as a 'really good signing' for Liverpool.

The Egyptian winger was bought from Roma for a record-breaking fee after his awe-inspiring performances at the Italian capital in the past two seasons.

And ahead of a campaign that sees Uefa Champions League return to Anfield, the former England international is confident that the addition of the former Chelsea flop would prove to be a good piece of business.

"I think Salah is a really good signing, he didn't quite nail it at Chelsea, but he was young at the time," Owen told MirrorFootball.

"He's gone away, he had a good time at Roma, he's got outstanding pace and if you're an attacking player with loads of pace then you're valuable.

"I think Liverpool are now looking like a team with a real potent attack.

"They needed to bolster the squad for Champions League football, a higher standard of games, so I think it's important that they did that."

Last week, Salah started his Liverpool career with a bang against Wigan and will be hoping to continue in similar fashion when the Reds face Crystal Palace on Wednesday for a Premier League Asia Trophy tie in Hong Kong.
