Liverpool v Manchester City Betting Tips: Goals galore expected at Anfield once more

Liverpool being drawn alongside Manchester City in the Champions League quarter finals could be a gift or a curse, depending on your outlook.

The two Premier League meetings between these sides have been spectacular, producing 12 goals combined, but it does mean that only one English team can progress to the semi-final stage.

Latest odds

Despite having home advantage on their side, Liverpool are made 2/1 (3.0) outsiders by 888Sport for this first leg.

Manchester City lost 4-3 on their previous visit to Anfield – their only top flight defeat this term - but are just 11/8 (2.38) to take an advantage back to the Etihad by coming out on top in this game. The draw is 13/5 (3.60) with the same firm.

Goals galore expected

Manchester City have racked up 88 Premier League goals this term and Liverpool are second in this metric with 75.

The Reds sit 13 ahead of third place Tottenham so it's no surprise to see over 2.5 goals priced at just 13/20 (1.65), given the sheer amount of attacking options on show. Albeit if this were a one-off match as opposed to a two-legged affair, you'd expect that quote to be even shorter.

Defences tough to trust

While both sides have had few problems in the final third, they're not the most convincing at the back. Not that it has stopped them racking up the points this season, especially City who can seal another top-flight title with a victory in the Manchester derby on Saturday evening.

Jurgen Klopp's men have played eight home Premier League games against the current top half teams, keeping clean sheets in just two of them.

Liverpool v Manchester City Champions League betting special

City, meanwhile, have conceded at least once in five of their eight trips to sides ranked 10th or better in the current standings.

With that in mind, backing over 2.5 goals and both teams to score at 3/4 (1.75) with 888Sport certainly appeals as the two face off once more.

While first leg clashes of this nature can sometimes be a little more reserved than usual, it’s tough to see a different approach from either manager - given their footballing philosophies - which only adds to the claims of another end-to-end encounter.

This selection has landed four times in City's Champions League campaign thus far and Liverpool certainly have the firepower to add to that statistic.
