Chelsea failed in Oblak bid

Chelsea saw a bid of €100 million (£89.2m/$113.8m) for goalkeeper Jan Oblak rejected by Atletico Madrid this summer, according to The Sunday Times.

With Thibaut Courtois departing for Real Madrid, the Blues looked to secure a deal for Slovenia international Oblak.

But with the Rojiblancos unwilling to sell, Chelsea instead secured a world-record deal to bring Kepa Arrizabalaga to Stamford Bridge ahead of the transfer deadline.

Keita set for Inter medical

Monaco forward Keita Balde is set to arrive in Milan on Sunday to undergo a medical with Inter, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The total fee is around €39 million (£34.9m/$44.4m), with Ketia set to complete the formalities of the transfer on Monday.

Witsel: Bayern tried to sign me in 2017

Borussia Dortmund's new signing Axel Witsel has claimed Carlo Ancelotti previously attempted to take him to Bayern Munich.

Ancelotti was dismissed from his role as Bayern boss in September 2017, but Witsel has revealed the Italian was keen on signing him before his tenure at the Bundesliga giants was cut short, although Tianjin Quanjian had no desire to sell the 29-year-old at the time.

Charly Musonda is hoping to leave Chelsea on a permanent basis before the transfer window closes, but the club would prefer to send him on loan, reports Het Laatste Nieuws.

The midfielder has seen his shirt number at Chelsea given to new signing Mateo Kovacic, but he is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2022.

That’s why Chelsea would prefer to loan him out, but Musonda is looking to move where he will play regular first-team football.

Betis still chasing Joao Mario

Real Betis are ready to make an offer for Joao Mario, with the Inter Milan midfielder keen on a move, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Joao Mario was a target for West Ham, but failed to move before the Premier League transfer window closed.

Norwood set for Sheff Utd move

Sheffield United have agreed a deal to sign Brighton midfielder Oliver Norwood, reports Sky Sports News.

'Mourinho clearing up really poor Van Gaal deals'

Jose Mourinho has been hindered throughout his time at Manchester United by the “really poor” signings of Louis van Gaal before him, says Gary Neville.

Brazil international Fred was the most notable addition this summer, at £52.5 million ($67m) , but there has been some rather more elaborate spending overseen in years gone by.

Mourinho has been responsible for some of that, including big-money deals for the likes of Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku, but he is considered to be making amends for his predecessor.

'Varane the dream for Man Utd but too expensive'

Rio Ferdinand felt Toby Alderweireld was “a definite” to join Manchester United over the summer, while the Red Devils may have been priced out of a move for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

Having spent much of the last transfer window chasing centre-half reinforcements, those supposed deficiencies are likely to be addressed again at a later stage by those at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand admits that he had expected at least one addition to have been made before now, with Tottenham star Alderweireld the most logical option – even at £60 million ($77m) for a 29-year-old.
