Leicester loanee Benkovic dedicates Celtic goal to late Srivaddhanaprabha

Leicester City loanee Filip Benkovic has dedicated his goal for Celtic against Hearts to the late Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the owner of the Foxes who died in a tragic helicopter crash.

Following the Foxes' draw with West Ham a fortnight ago, the helicopter that usually picks up Srivaddhanaprabha from the King Power Stadium crashed in the stadium's car park , claiming the lives of all five people on board.

Tributes have poured in for the man who was at the helm of the club's greatest triumph, their miraculous Premier League title win.

Flowers and shirts have been laid outside the ground, and Benkovic, who joined the Foxes in the summer and immediately moved on loan to Celtic, has joined the throng of people paying their respects after scoring in his side's 5-0 win at the weekend.

Speaking to Goal , he said: "The past few days were very heavy for Leicester.

"It is still hard to accept, the man was great. I met him while I was in Leicester and I saw what kind of a man he was: so modest and honest, despite all the millions he had.

"I don't have words to express my sadness after this tragedy.

"The least I could do was to dedicate my goal [in the 5-0 win over Hearts] to him."

Leicester got back on the pitch at the weekend, beating Cardiff City 1-0.

Demarai Gray's winner sparked emotional celebrations among the players , with goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel even running the length of the pitch to join in.

The Danish goalkeeper witnessed the crash, and has admitted that he expects the memory of the scene will forever stay with him.

"I was on the pitch and I waved him off. It is something that will stay with me, unfortunately," he said.

"I saw it all happen. It's not a nice memory but I've had all the support that I need. The club has been great and everybody has received the support that they needed."
