Leicester-like Wales are dangerous opponents for England - Darren Anderton

The former Spurs star says that the Three Lions are favourites to win Thursday’s game on paper but believes the Welsh will pose a big threat

Darren Anderton has warned England that they need to be wary of a Wales side that boasts many of the characteristics of title-winners Leicester City.

England go into Thursday’s game against their rivals under huge pressure following Russia’s last ditch equaliser in Marseille last weekend.

The Welsh, meanwhile, head into the Group B clash in Lens with three points already in the bank following their 2-1 win against Slovakia in their first major tournament match since 1958.

Now Anderton is urging England to tread carefully in a match which could make or break their Euro 2016 dreams.

“On paper you would like to think that England can win it comfortably but the fact that they know all about us means it will be played more like a Premier League game,” the former England and Spurs star told Goal.

“That makes it more interesting and probably more of a leveller really. It will be a game that Wales will be looking forward to.

“You have to say, the way that Wales play, they’ve almost got that Leicester ethic about them.

“They work their socks off as a team with a couple of players who can produce those moments of magic to win games. They’re a team that people should be concerned about.”

A win for Wales would see Chris Coleman’s men clinch their place in the last 16 of the Euros.
