Justin Kluivert's transfer to Roma moved a step closer on Monday as the Dutchman flew into the Italian capital.

The 19-year-old winger - son of former Netherlands international Patrick - has attracted plenty of interest after a string of impressive performances for Ajax .

Manchester United and Barcelona have been heavily linked with the talented teenager after seeing a summer scramble for his signature sparked.

Roma, however, appear to have won the race to secure his services, with the club airing video footage on social media of the player arriving in Rome.

Kluivert held up a club scarf and signed autographs for supporters after being greeted by a sizeable crowd ahead of a medical.

The Serie A side will reportedly pay €18 million (£16m/$21m) up front to push a deal through, in the process making him their fourth new addition following the signings of Bryan Cristante, Ante Coric and Ivan Marcano.

Kluivert - who made his Netherlands debut in March, coming off the bench in a 3-0 friendly win over Portugal - scored 10 goals and provided five assists in the 2017-18 Eredivisie season.

Kluivert had been warned against making a move away from Ajax so early in his development , with father Patrick telling Ole : "I personally said to him maybe it's better to stay one more year at Ajax, to make some kilometres, to be important for the team.

"He's 19 years old. He's still young, but he makes his own decisions, and as a dad, I have to stand behind all the decisions that he makes."

The youngster will be hoping that he has made the right career call, with his rapid progress to this point having seen him win plenty of admirers and the Goal NxGn 2018 .
