Kaizer Motaung calls for patience amid Kaizer Chiefs' tame start

Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung has backed the club's head coach Giovanni Solinas.

The Italian tactician has been under-pressure in recent times because of Amakhosi's poor start to the 2018/19 campaign.

Solinas' side remains winless in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) having recorded four draws and one defeat from five matches.

Amakhosi were also knocked out of the 2018 MTN8 by SuperSport United in a semi-final tie last weekend.

Pressure is mounting on Solinas, whose tactics were recently criticized by Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro following the team's defeat to SuperSport in the second-leg clash.

Motaung feels that it would be unfair to give Solinas timeframes as he has just started his job in June 2018.

“You have to bear in mind that the coach didn’t have a preseason with the team," Motaung was quoted as saying by The Citizen

The former Free State Stars coach replaced Steve Komphela, who quit in April 2018 having failed to win a major trophy with the club.

"And unfortunately, we had a tight programme in August. But I am not very concerned at the moment," Motaung explained.

The Amakhosi boss remains hopeful that the team will soon turn the corner in the league.

"The coach needs to be given a chance. He didn’t have a start like other coaches where they had pre-season training where he would have been able to put his systems in place,'" he continued.

"So, far I am happy with what has been happened, but obviously there were some glitches in our defensive area. We have new players coming into the team which for me augers well for the team going forward," Motaung said.

"It is better to experience these hiccups at the beginning of the season then to have them later on in the season or towards the end," he concluded.

Chiefs will be hoping to snap their winless run in the PSL when they travel to the Mother City where they are scheduled to face Cape Town City after the current international Fifa break.

The encounter is scheduled to take place at the Cape Town Stadium on September 15.
