Kaizer Chiefs interested in Baroka’s Talent Chawapiwa

With the Premier Soccer League (PSL) transfer window not in full swing as yet, player and coach movements are already making headlines.

The latest player to be linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs is Baroka FC’s Talent Chawapiwa who is seen as a possible new signing at Naturena.

The Zimbabwean winger has had a great season with the Limpopo-based side as he contributed to Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele's cause with several fine displays.

Local media reports have revealed that Amakhosi are set to fight for the player’s signature along with rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Brazilians are said to be interested in the Baroka winger who joined Bakgaga from Zimbabwe’s FC Platinum at the beginning of the season.

Chawapiwa has done well in his debut season and chipped in with a goal and five assists.

Following his exploits, it looks like he could part ways with the side from the Ga Mphahlele with Chiefs and Sundowns reportedly impressed.

The left winger is set to compete with the likes of Siphiwe Tshabalala at Chiefs as the Soweto giants will want to challenge for trophies next season.

At Chloorkop, the Zimbabwean player will battle it out for a starting berth with Aubrey Ngoma and Percy Tau on the left wing.

“Sundowns and Chiefs have already contacted his agent, Mike Ngobeni. They are both interested in the player. He is still contracted to Baroka, but Khurishi Mphahlele [Baroka chairman] is open to selling him if a right offer comes along,” a source told Isolezwe.

On the other hand, the player’s agent Mike Ngobeni could not divulge the clubs interested in his client, but confirmed enquiries were made about the player.

“Talent is a Baroka player, so if teams are interested in him, then they must contact Baroka. I can’t comment on which team is interested in him,” said Ngobeni.

The 25-year-old winger has played in 29 matches for Bakgaga in all competitions last season as they finished at number 14 on the log table.

Baroka are also linked with former Chiefs coach Wedson Nyirenda who has since resigned as Zambia national team coach.
