Sweden boss Janne Andersson has played down the chances of him taking Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the World Cup in the summer.
The Manchester United forward has mused over the possibility of ending his international retirement in time for Russia 2018, admitting that he “misses” the buzz of representing his country, for whom he played 116 times and scored a record 62 goals.
Andersson is the man that 36-year-old must persuade to pick him should he make himself available, but the coach is not going to be easy to win over.
“It doesn’t change anything for me,” he said as he announced his squad for a friendly against Chile.
“It’s great that players want to join us.
“I don’t follow what is written and rumoured very much. I respect the decision he has taken. I’ve not thought more about it.
“To me, the situation is the same. And that goes for Pontus Wernbloom as well. If they change their minds, they are very welcome to come and speak to me.”
Ibrahimovic’s last outing for Sweden was at Euro 2016, when his side were dumped out at the group stage following a 1-1 draw with Ireland then 1-0 defeats against Italy and Belgium.
He has struggled for game time at Manchester United this season following serious knee ligament damage sustained nearly a year ago, playing only 187 minutes over seven fixtures.
