A win for Pune City against NorthEast United will help them to the seventh spot on the table above Kerala Blasters...

Pune City picked up their first win of the season when they bettered Jamshedpur 2-1 in their last match in the Indian Super League (ISL).

With a match against NorthEast United in Pune up next, head coach Pradhyum Reddy is hoping to build on their first win and accumulate points on the board so as to climb up the league table.

"It (renewed energy in the team) is something we could see last week, even before the victory after the international break. We got a sustained period to work with the players and players were raring to go after a good week to 10 days of training. You could see that in the performance against Jamshedpur and we’re hoping to build on that in the next 10 days," Reddy said.

The Indian coach is reluctant to adopt a defensive approach against Eelco Schattorie's NorthEast United who have only lost one match this season.

"We tried in a couple of games before the break to go with a more conservative approach and it didn’t necessarily get us the results that we wanted. With the attacking options that we have in our squad, I think it is best for us to go with more of an attacking mindset because we need to get three points.

"We can’t afford to pick up a draw here and there because if you look at the way the league table is now, we need to give ourselves some distance from Chennaiyin and Delhi and get closer to Kerala, the team immediately above us. We have to have that kind of an attacking mindset."

Pune City are eighth on the table with five points after eight matches. A win against the Highlanders on Tuesday will help them climb to the seventh spot.
