ISL 2017-18: Eelco Schattorie prefers technology to detect goals and offside

The Dutch assistant coach is tilted towards implementing technology in football to reduce human error...

Eelco Schattorie, the assistant coach of NorthEast United, made it clear that he favours the use of technology in football as he thinks that it will make the game fairer by eliminating human errors.

"In life, everything is improved by technology. Does it make people happier? I don't think so. I think it makes people lazier. But in football? Sure, it can be fairer. If a ball goes over the line and the referee is not able to see that but with technology, you can see that," reasoned the Dutchman.

"I am generally in favour but there will be issues. Let me put it this way, offside and goal-line technology, I am in favour," added Schattorie.

After a string of disappointing results, NorthEast United decided to part ways with Joao De Deus and roped in former Chelsea manager Avram Grant as the head coach with Schattorie as his assistant. The 46-year old assistant to Grant was positive about the tactics implemented by the team.

"The atmosphere is good. From the first day I arrived till now, the players have the intention to get a result."

"Regarding the team gelling and getting tactics implemented, it takes time. Defensively, I don't think we have problems. Overall everybody is positive. We play against tthe number one team tomorrow (Friday). You don't have to motivate if we are playing against the number one team," said Schattorie.

NorthEast United are currently placed ninth on the table and will take on table-toppers Chennaiyin FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday.
